My Hero

I couldn't believe who was standing in front of me. It was my crush, Cassie Sullivan. We used to go to high school together before the arrival but she probably didn't even know who I am. The most shocking part was who her brother is. After all those nights of Nugget talking about his sister Cassie, I never expected that his sister was Cassie Sullivan, but here they were standing in front of me.

"Cassie? My name is Ben Parish we used to go to high school together." I said

"Yeah, I know who you are." She grinned

"Common we have to get out of here."

I quickly explained to Nugget what was going on, before removing his tracker, grabbing Cassie's hand and running down the hallway.

It wasn't long before I felt a gun being pressed into my back and a voice telling me to drop my weapon. I reconized that voice way too well. Vosh.

He ordered the other recruits to take us to hangar 2 by force. Unfortunately, I didn't have a plan to escape and by the look on Cassie's face I could tell that she didn't either.

I knew Vosh would kill us immediantly but before he did so, there was something that I needed to tell Cassie, something that I've been dying to tell her my whole life and I couldn't keep it inside any longer.

The recruits brought us to hangar 2 and Vosh was getting ready to kill us.

"Have any last words Zombie?" He said to me

"I love you Cassie!" Vosh laughed

Before I could see Cassie's reaction, some guy charged into the room and killed Vosh.

"Evan?" Cassie said with a mix of excitement and shock

"Who's this?" the guy pointed at me

"Ben Parish"

"The Ben Parish?" He raised his eyebrows and looked clearly shocked

"Um, yes?"

"Is he your boyfriend?" Nugget interrupted, pointing at the guy named Evan

"No, he's just a friend." Cassie stuttered

"Actually Ben is Cassie's friend from high school."

"How the heck do you know who I am?" This guy was starting to freak me out

"It doesn't matter. Let's get out of here."

We sprinted out of the room and soon enough I heard a gunshot followed by a scream. I turned around to see who had been shot. I saw Evan lying on the floor in a pool of his own blood.

"Come on Cassie, we have to go." I said, grabbing Cassie and Nugget's hands

We ran outside and as soon as we got there a car pulled up driven by Ringer. We hopped in and Ringer drove us back to the camp that her and the others had set up. Ringer and the others left to go catch dinner, so that meant that Cassie and I were finally alone.

"Who was that Evan and how does he know who I am?" I asked her

"Well. I guess I kinda talked about you a bit." Her face turned a bright red

I grinned

"Why did you tell me that you loved me, right before Evan rescued us?" She asked

"It's because I do love you Cassie, I have for a very long time. I never told you because I never thought that you would like a guy like me."

"Ben, I- I don't know what to say. Why would you love me? You're amazing and you could have any girl that you want and I'm well nothing."

"Don't every say that about yourself Cassie. You mean the world to me. But tell me Cassie, how do you feel about me?"

"Ben-" She stuttered

"I've been in love with you since the 8th grade. You always make me smile and I can't tell you how many times I've dreamed about this moment. I love you Ben."

Then I started to lean in and Cassie did the same. There was less than a centimeter between us. I closed the gap and I kissed her.

"I love you Benjamin Thomas Parish. You're my hero."

I kissed her again, this time harder

"I love you too Cassie."
