Chapter 8: Confrontation

Citadel Docking Port, Docking Bays,
Citadel

With that Sara took off, moving low and fast towards the container on the left. Voruns and the Captain left there cover and began advancing behind Sara, the three operatives forming a triangular shape as they moved.

"Voruns use your Omni-tool to open the door. Sara and I'll cover you." Ordered Captain Matheus as they reached the storage container on the left.

"You sure Captain? The Zealot has the upper hand, we don't even know if he's in the container."

"That's an order Voruns."

Voruns reluctantly activated his Omni-tool and began to hack the door. Upon completion he saw the doors lock turn green and it began to creak open.

"Stay sharp!" Ordered Matheus.

Once the door had fully opened the three C-Sec operatives were greeted with nothing but darkness.

"Lights on and..." But Caltain Matheus was cut off by a low quiet growl from the dark container.

Slowly and steadily one growl became two, then three, then four, until the container echoed with the low growl of...Varen.

At once the three switched on the lights of their suits, and were greeted by the sight of six growling Varen.

The sound of gunfire, echoing out of the Kowloon's cargo bay, brought Garrus back to consciousness.

"That does not sound good." Said Larsan gazing at the open door of the Kowloon.

Garrus looked up at his Salarian partner. "Not good at all. I knew that this plan of the Captains would backfire. Krogan don't retreat. The Zealot wanted to be followed."

Matheus with his M-8 Avenger, Voruns with his M-15 Vindicator and Sara with her M22-Eviscerator,, they all began firing at once.

Sara and Voruns managed to take down one, as did Matheus, before the beasts pounces.

The three operatives dove backwards out of the container. Barely avoiding the snarling jaws of the four remaining Varen.

"That doesn't sound good. That medi-gel helped so I'm going in." Stated Garrus.

"Someone needs to watch Luhan. Carlos are you able to give him some more medi-gel while Garrus and I help the others?" Asked Larsan getting to his feet.

"You bet amigos. Go give that zealot hell for me." Replied Carlos as Larsan and Garrus moved towards the entrance of the Kowloon's cargo bay.

Voruns dived to the left as one of the two Varen that were circling him lunged. He looked over and saw Sara take out a Varen with a shotgun blast to the head. Matheus was lunging over a barrel with his Varen close in pursuit.

Voruns took his attention back to the predators circling him just as the second one lunged. It caught him off guard and he held out his rifle as its jaws closed in on his face.

The Varen closed its jaws around the Vindicator battle rifle and Voruns stumbled backwards, losing his grip on the rifle.

As he fell he had just enough time to activate the blade on his Omni-tool. He plunged it into the throat of the other Varen, who had taken the opportunity presented by the second Varens failed attack to make his advance.
