Chapter 2
(Chance Encounter)
Jarrod’s point of view
Shifters, was in full swing by the time we arrived. Grant lead, while I happily took up the rear of the group. I silently hoped I’d find an excuse to leave early. Hell I’d even stand watch at the pack house if it meant I could leave soon.
Grant took a seat on the right hand side of the table next to the wall. My Alpha liked to have a wall behind him so people couldn’t sneak up on him. He had enforcers that would protect him, but old habits die hard; Grant had once been an enforcer himself.
Annoyed I leaned on the wall at the back side of the table so I could look out into the club. I didn’t like anyone being able to sneak up on me either.
“Grant,” Max said walking up with his own enforcers. Grant stood up and shook hands with the other Alpha and both men sat down. Shifters literally sat half on Grant’s territory and half on Max’s. They saw a lot of each other. In fact we saw each other so much that we had members of the two different packs dating. I think it’s a bad idea.
“Hi Jarrod,” Tina said addressing me. I just looked at her. Why the girl ever cut her hair off to look like a porcupine was beyond me. The way she was looking at me she wanted my attention. I internally growled. ‘Why couldn’t she get the fact I didn’t want her through her head?’
“Tina,” I said flatly. I could’ve been nice but I didn’t want her taking it as interest.
The black spiky haired woman frowned at me giving a slightly pouty lip. I knew what she was doing. Tina was trying to entice me into apologizing so she could turn things the way she wanted. I ignored her and looked out into the club.
I saw Tina look at Grant hopeful and knew it was time to take a walk before I ended up getting ordered to apologize. Without a word I walked away.
As I walked through the club I noticed several girls look my way. Once they read the white writing that lit up by the black lights however they changed direction. I outwardly smirked as I saw a couple of girls read my shirt and hurry away. ‘Good.’ I thought to myself. Women are only trouble anyway. ‘Lying bitches.’
I made my way over to the bar and ordered a beer. I paid the bartender and turned around. I was about to consider walking back when something shiny caught my eye.
I looked over to the metal staircase, which lead down into the club. Two women were walking down the steps. One had dark hair and wore a teal blue halter dress. Even in the distance you could tell she was pretty, but it wasn’t her that had caught my attention. It was the woman in a sparkling goldish-tan colored dress. The light had reflected off it and caught my eye. The woman had strawberry blonde two and was just as pretty as the other girl. They had different looks but were both pretty. The dark haired girl looked exotic while the blonde made me think of California.
‘Stay clear of them.’ I thought to myself. The prettier a girl is the more trouble they are. I half considered the idea that maybe I should give Tina a chance. She wasn’t really pretty now; not ugly but, not the eye catcher the dark haired woman had been before she’d chopped her long hair.
I shouldn’t have looked at the two women. Seconds later a woman I recognized wearing a red tight fitting spandex dress entered the club. ‘No!’ I internally groaned. I did not want to deal with Kathy today. I watched as my ex-girlfriend walked down the stairs on Tom’s arm. Kathy had cheated on me with him. Grant had ordered her out of our territory and banished her from the pack; he’d done it so I didn’t kill the female wolf.
