Mates Are Overrated

Daring Darin Chapter 4

Adam and I spent the rest of the day together; watching TV, playing video games and just hanging out. But I knew I had to tell Adam about my past. I needed to tell him that I was chosen to be set free from a curse I had for far to long. I was watching TV with Adam. I poked his arm and he turned his head towards me.

"Whats up?" He asked curiously.

"I need to tell you something," I said carefully.

"Oh no, you already have a boyfriend don't you? I'm really sorry," Adam looked down to the ground and held his head.

"No! That's not it at all!" I yelled. I didn't mean to yell, it just happened, "It's a long story so get ready,"

Adam looked at me with curious eyes. He sat so he was looking directly at me. I did the same.

"You probably already figured out that I live in the worl'd shittiest pack," Adam laughed," In their I did have a mate. Not a mate that we aren't meant for each other; but a real mate. The mate tht's supposed to be with you forever. Well I was with my mate for three years. And recently I found out that he was cheating on me with someone. I tried to ignore the pain. And gradually the pain went away. One night, I followed him to the house that he goes to almost every night to cheat on me. I found out it was my sister's house. That night I left a note and left. I'e been living with my parents for the past couple weeks. And during that time there was no apology, nothing. I asked my alpha if I could leave and he said no. He commanded me to stay. The only way out of the pack was to ind someone else to be my mate and be with them," I looked back at Adam, he was soaking up every word.

"Last night a spirit visited my dream. The spirit removed my other mate's mark. And she gave me a true mate, you," I finished.

"Natalie, I'm so sorry that happened to you. If he suddenly thinks he wants you back I will kill him! You are my mate, Natalie, if he does come back for you would you go with him?" Adam rushed out the words.

"No, never!" I hugged Adam, "I have the best mate anyone could ever have,"

"Natalie, you're mine and I want everyone to know it," I knew what Adam was getting at.

I showed him the exposed side of my neck. He looked in my eyes to see if I didn't want this. He didn't find what he was looking for so he continued. I felt his canines brush against my skin for a split second before I was marked. The pain surged through me, but it slowly faded. I returned the favor to Adam. We were now both marked. Adam gently kissed me.

Before I knew it we both on  the bed. as things added up and as things led to one another. The best thing that ever happened in my life had happened.

The next morning I woke up with Adam's arms around me. I felt happy that I was safe with him. I kissed his cheek gently and the I tried to get up. Adam pulled me back to him.

"You're not getting away from me that easily," Adam said.

"I need to get in the shower,"I punched his chest lightly.

"You could use some company," Adam smiled.

I laughed, "No, not right now. I have to get my stuff today, remember?" I kissed him.

He finally let me go. I stood up and walked to the bathroom. I completely forgot that I was naked. After last night I shouldn't be nervous about that, though. I got a quick shower and got dressed. A simple tight blue tee shirt and gray skinny jeans. I brushed my brown hair and walked out of the bathroom. Adm was still sleeping in be. I laughed  little bit.

"Adam get up," I shook him.

"I don't want to leave I'm too tired!" He whined like a little kid.

"C'mon, get up!" I shook him again.

"I bet my mate could wake me up," He pulled me under the covers with him.

"If you get up now you'll get what you want after I get all my stuff," I put out my offer.

"You're a cruel mate, keeping me waiting," He joked.

Adam got dressed and we headed over to my house through the woods. We didn't shift, we just wanted to walk. We talked about stuff we had in common and just random topics. When we finally found my house, Adam took my hand. We walked up to the front door and I knocked. My mother flung the door open. She attacked me with a hug.

"Where the hell have you been, Natalie? Do you know how scared we've been!" She just noticed Adam, "Who's he?"

"If you let us in we can explain everything," My mother lead us through the house and to the living room. Adam and I sat down next to each other holding each other's hand. My parents sat across from us waiting for an answer to everything. I explained everything, about the spirit and Adam and Darin.

They completely understood. The gladly accepted Adam as my true mate. My father actually threatened Adam. If he hurt me that'd be the last thing he'd do. Adam had reassured both my parents about the situation. 

After a little while of talking; Adam started to help me pack all of my things. Adam and I were just about done when someone burst through the door.

"Natalie! Please I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry!" Darin apologized. He was standing in the door way when he noticed Adam.

"Who the hell is this? If you touch my mate-" Darin was interrupted by Adam.

"Your mate? You mean the mate that you cheated on for two years? With her own sister! She is my mate now. A spirit granted her wish of being free of your mark. We're fully mated," Adam pulled me to him. He held on to me like I was the most important thing in the world.

"Natalie, is this true?" Anger flared off of Darin.

"Yes it's true! Adam is my true mate!" I hissed.

Hurt was all that was in Darin's eyes,"I will have you back, Natalie!"

Darin rushed out of my room and out of the house. My parents dashed into the room with worried looks on their face.

"Was that Darin?" My mother asked.

"Yeah," I sighed.

"Well, Adam, looks like you better protect my daughter at all costs or Darin will take her either willingly or unwillingly," My father sighed.

"C'mon we better get back home," I whispered to Adam.
