Chapter Four: I Missed Out On My 4:00 Magic School Bus Slot

After that little breakdown in history class, Derek and I are standing outside of the campus in the parking lot, none of us speaking. I appreciate his silence because It gives me time to think.

I can feel Derek's eyes on us and it's making me feel insecure. I know he likes me. Loves me. I love him

I love his sleekly combed back blonde hair, his green eyes that seem like they change color in different lighting's, his smile, Geez I think I just love him. All 6"1 of him.

Let me get this straight though. I love him as a friend and like him as a lover. Call it a school girl crush.

I nudge Derek on the shoulder and turn to him giving me a sympathetic smile " Hey do you think you can give me a ride to Rosedale Elementary, I gotta pick up Danny"

He smiles and nods opening the car door for me "After you me lady" I laugh and hop in.

When we get to the elementary school I hug Derek and tell him how grateful I am to have him in my life and he just hugs me back saying "Anything for you"

Derek and Rue know most things about me; from my mum being a neglectful bitch, to Danny.

Though Rue is the only one who knows about my job at Vixen's. I don't think Derek is ready for news quite that big yet, he just thinks that my mum is this way because she blames me for my dad leaving us.

Partly true. The other part is that she is just money hungry.

I walk towards the front office and see Danny holding onto both sides of his bag while kicking at a rock.

"Hey I'm looking for this annoying kid, his name is Danny Kurchel, he's pretty ugly" I smile smugly at him and see his foot slowly stop kicking, Danny looks up at me and smiles before running and jumping up to hug me

"Hey Evie!! I thought mum forgot to pick me up again" He looks at me and I can't help but well up a bit thinking about how much this kid deserves the world.

Out of no where Danny slaps my shoulder "Ow what the f-fruckus was that for?"

He hops off me "Why were you late!! I missed out on my 4:00 The Magic School Bus slot because of you"

I feign a look of worry "Oh no, I"m so sorry bud why don't I make it up to you by buying us some cheeseburgers from Sally's?"

"Extra cheese?"

I nod "I'll even throw in a milkshake and fries?"

"Mocha milkshake?"

"No caffeine"

He sighs " fine chocolate?"

I nod again " That a deal?"

he bites his bottom lip and smiles at me giving me a huge toothy grin "Deal"

We grab the corner booth where hardly anyone sits and tuck in to our food, but on the other side of Sally's sits the most biggest jerkface in my entire world.

Vincent sits alone and looks to be thinking hard about something. Why is he alone? has no one seen him sitting there yet? He doesn't seem to have noticed us sitting here but just in case I chuck up my hood and pull the strings tight so that you can only see my eyes nose and lips.

"You always do your hoodie like that, I think you look weird" Danny looks at me like Im the weird one in the family.

"Whatever, look just don't speak to loud okay? I wanna go home soon"

he gives me an innocent smile and nods before eating his burger

"Salem, where the fuck are you!!"

All the customer's in Sal's stop what they're doing and snap their head to the front entrance where Derek walks in, his hands are clenched into fists, his face is red and he's got the crazy eyes going on.

What the helling? My head turns to Vincent and to my surprise he looks smug

Shit, this is about me isn't it? I vaguely remember Derek telling Vincent to meet him here ahhh fuck why couldn't Derek just leave it? I'm thankful but we don't need to waste our breath on his people. Now more attention will be aimed towards me.

I see Vincent raise his hand I don't catch on to what he says though but one swift stride and Derek punches him straight in the face

- Oh My Fruckus

I'm about to get up and approach them but then Vincent punches him back. NO!! Before I can stand up and pull Vincent away from Derek, I feel Danny prying my arms open and then crawling into my lap

"Evie I'm scared" he digs his face into my hoodie and blocks his ears so that he doesn't have to see or hear anything.

Danny does this when he gets scared and the thought of him just unconsciously doing this when he's scared makes me scared. What happens if he's scared and I ain't there?

I rub his back while soothing him "Hey let's go okay? Let's go home so I can kick your butt on Mario Carts" He looks up at me and his eyebrows release while his frown slowly turns upside down

"Okay, but I'm gonna win you suck at that game Eve"I quickly leave a tip before hoisting Danny on to my hip holding him there and getting the fuck outta here.

Im just going to have to find out what happened between the two tomorrow at school.

"Told you I'll win" Danny leans back so that his head lightly taps on my chest

"Hey I let you win" I really didn't. He's good at this, he basically lives on this anyways so of course he'll beat me.

My phone buzzes and I pick it up to see a message from Rue saying "Don't kill me. I really am sorry but he has a way with words"

"Hold up Danny, you can play single player mode for now I'm just going to make a call"

Before I can press the dial button on my phone, my phone buzzes indicating that I have an incoming call

But it's not from Rue it's from my mum. I walk out of my room and slowly close the door so that Danny doesn't overhear our conversation.

-Hi

-I ain't gonna be home for the rest of the week, make sure that it's clean before I get back or you'll get it ok? I'm gonna drop by soon to grab something."

I don't even get to say okay before the witch hangs up.

I smile a bit; knowing that she won't be here all week makes me happy. Me and Danny can be free for a bit

Someone knocks on the door snapping me out of my thoughts

I quickly open the door to Danny's room "Dan turn off the game quick mum's here!!" He drops his controller and looks terrified before running to turn off the power button after that he runs to me and jumps up digging his face into my jumper again

I hate my mum. I hate her for making him this way. No 6 year old who has an averagely privileged life should be this scared. Mum's never hit him but she yells at him and calls him all names in the book and to me that does more damage.

"Hey, hey just hold on tight okay? She won't do anything"

he shakes his head "Eve please don't go to work tonight I don't want to stay here with her"

"I ain't going anywhere, she's just making a quick stop"

I walk downstairs with Danny making sure I don't fall over.

When I open the door, I gasp in shock

Standing there isn't my mom , but Vincent Salem

Well shit

Recalling the text message that I got earlier

"Fucking Rue"
