"Woah woah, woah." Lea waved her hands in front of her in utter disbelief, "so he kissed you? Like, really placed those man lips on yours? That stunning guy everyone talked about even before he came to our school? And he has a girlfriend?!?"

I shrugged, not knowing what else to say. I told her everything that happened, every detail from the part after I left her in the cafeteria out of curiousity to follow the scent that seemed totally unfamiliar but at the same time familiar. Did that make sense?

And there we were at MacDonalds, talking over dinner like we planned and Lea having to force out an explanation for why I left her all alone with her crush. I mean, she really didn't have to because either way I was going to tell her what had occured for those shocking ten minutes. I don't keep secrets from my best friend. She already knew about my werewolf history anyway.

I even mentioned that the creepy boy had a scent like a werewolf, and she perked up even more at this.

"Werewolf? Another one? Well what a coincidence." She shook her head and crossed her arms in front of her chest, a smirk plastered onto her face.

"What? Why are you staring at me like that?" I rose my eyebrows at the mischevious glint in her bright green eyes, as if she knew something that I was dumb enough to not realise.

She gestured for me to lean forward and she cupped her hand to my ear after I did so, and started whispering to me.

"He's here, because it's time." She spoke into my ear and I winced lightly as my reaction to her statement. Before I could ask what she meant, she continued.

"It's that time of the year where the animals, you know.."

I shoved her into her seat but she had already broken out into a series of laughter, her clutching onto her stomach for dear life. I rolled my eyes and threw a french fry at her, hitting her right at the cheek. She must have thought that it was my way of trying to show my irritation towards her and she laughed harder, hitting her thigh at the same time. God was she annoying.

After she calmed herself down, she used the sleeve of her shirt to pat her eyes before sniffing and turning her attention towards me. I rolled my eyes at her and decided to speak.

"I know what you're thinking Lea, and no. He is not my mate. He can't be. Never in a million years. Forget all the silly werewolf books you've been reading, because now let's face it. I don't have a mate. Not here, not out there. Because my wolf.. She's gone. I can't get her back because, I don't know how. I can't. And because of that, I can't have a mate. He can't have me too. I'm no use at all. And besides, we won't know if we were because I don't have my wolf to tell me. I'm practically human."

I looked down to see my trembling hands and I placed them on either side of my cheek, my eyes not meeting the girl in front of me. She reached out and took one of my hands in hers, squeezing lightly as she talked.

"I know," she sighed. "I may not be a werewolf like you, or an ex-werewolf if you say so, but I know that some day it's bound to happen. You and your mate. You might not know it, but there's this similarity between humans and werewolves. Both species have soulmates. The thing is that, humans take a longer time to realise it than werewolves. We slowly fall in love and take their time because we don't have great senses, and we have a more fragile heart. Most of us are afraid of taking that huge step into love because they know that it's difficult to turn back. They face problems like family, school, long-distances. Like how werewolves face daily challenges like rogues and the safety of one's pack.
