Imaginary... but yet he seems so real.

It was late and dark. The street lights were no where to be seen on the side roads. What made it even worse is we had to take alley ways to avoid any police officer driving by due to the fact we were out after curfew.

“Do you remember alley ways being so dark?” Lily asked hugging my arm as I hugged hers back.

“Now that you mention it.... no.”

I hated the dark with a loathing passion which is probably explained why I had lights strung up in my room and still had to fall asleep with the t.v. on mute. It's not that I didn't like the dark... it's the things IN the dark I didn't like.

'We... are gonna die. We are gonna get raped and then die.' My mind panicked.

That was until I felt a arm slither around my shoulder.

I tensed ready to fight any rapist that was going to try to make a murderous move.... until I saw it was no rapist. It was HIM.

“Get your arm off me!” I hissed.

He back away putting his hands up with an amused smirk.

“What? Why? Come on, Val. I'm scared. You can't be mean when I'm scared!” Lily pouted letting my arm free.

“Oh god no! Not you!” I said grabbing her and pulling her back to me as we continued to journey down the alley. “HIM!”

“Oh.... so does HIM... have a name?” She asked still looking a bit worried about the subject of said HIM.

“Oh wow! Do I wish I did! Boy, do I ever!” He gushed walking ahead of us in anger.

I ignored him and his subtle glances back at me with a pleading look.

“Oh com on, Valerie! Give me a name!” He groaned walking backwards.

“No, naming means getting attached. Getting attached means keeping and I am NOT keeping you. As soon as we can figure out how to un-do this.. this CURSE there will be no need for a name, because there will be no you.” I said not looking at him.

“Val,” Lily said making me look at her “Uhm... even if imaginary, spell-made, or what ever he is... that was pretty harsh.”

I looked from her to him to see a blank expression on his face, but his eyes filled with hurt and distinct hate... hate for me.

“Sorry.” I mumbled.

We walked in silence for a while losing myself in my own thoughts.

“What was that?!” Lily said jerking to a stop.

“That's not funny, Lily!” I warned her.

“I'm not trying to BE funny!” She scolded gripping my arm tighter.

“I-it was probably just nothing.” I said pulling her along to walk again.

“I wish Dominick was here.” Lily breathe heavily.

Dominick was her boyfriend. I have no idea why she'd wish for him to be there. The guy couldn't even fight his own demons from dunking his head every now and then.

“Yeah..” Was all I said in reply.

The noise came again. I heard it this time as well as we both stopped in the middle of the alley way.

“Maybe we should turn back.” Lily said.

“What does it matter? It's half way back tracking and half way moving forward.” I said studying what I could tell of our surroundings.

“The difference is there could be some- some blood lusted fiend ahead!” Lily whispered in a panic.

“Bet you wish I had that stake right about now, huh?” I said still looking around.

“Uh huh.”

“It's okay.” His came behind me. “Look over there.”

I followed the gaze of his hazel green eyes and saw the source of our worries.

“Lily,” I breath out happily. “It's just a dog on a chain.”

“Are you serious?!” Lily said peering over to the iron gated fence to see a black lab peering out at us under his owner's garage light.

I watched him go over to the dog. I almost called out for him to be careful 'til I remember.. nothing can happen to him. He isn't... well.. real. At that thought he whipped around and glared at me before passing through the fence.

That glare was so cold... so full of emotion it was getting really hard to believe that he wasn't real when he so seemed that way.

“What's it doing?” Lily asked.

I studied the dog's movements along with my invis-man's.

He held his hand out and the dog put it's paw on his hand as he proceeded to shake it.

“He- he can see you?!” I said totally astonished.

“Animals have a sixth sense.” He said with a shrug.

“You mean to tell me... that dog is.. shaking your imaginary friend's hand?” Lily asked kind of starting to believe there being an invisible man at our side.

“I can't believe it myself, Lil.” Was all I said.

“Whatever, let's go. This alley was creepy alone without a dog shaking your invisible boyfriend's hand.” Lily said walking ahead of me.

“H-hey! Hold on he isn't my-”

“Come on girlfriend. Don't want to be left alone in a dark alley way.” He said throwing his arm around my shoulder pushing me along with a slap happy grin on his face.
