Ella’s POV

Sitting in my room, I couldn’t stop myself from fidgeting. I had a million questions racing through my mind. Who was he? What did he want? Why was my father so scared? I wasn’t worried though. My father could handle himself.

A quiet tapping on my bedroom door knocked me out of my thoughts. I jumped off my bed and walked to the door. I opened the door to see my mother standing before me.

“Ella?” My full name is Eleanor, but I hate it. If anyone called me that I could hit them. “Come help me set the table for dinner.” I nodded and sighed.

My mum was beautiful. She had glossy brunette locks, forest green eyes and a tanned complexion. If you looked at us standing next to each other, you wouldn’t think we were related. I had always been jealous of her. She was stunning. I was plain. I had bland blonde hair that fell down my back. It was horrid.  I felt my eyes were just as bad, even though Maddie told me my eyes were my best quality.

I hurried down the stairs and started setting the table, my eyes darting toward the office door every now and then. What was going on in there? Deep down inside I had a gut wrenching feeling that it was something to do with me.
