“Heard any word yet?” His friend asked.
“Not yet but I’m supposed to meet with him today. I hope he gives me some good news.”
“Not many people get that opportunity.” He thought the whole idea was preposterous, only a rare few had ever been given the privilege so he was very doubtful that his friend would get approved.
“I know, Jay, I know, but I have a really good feeling about this. She can feel it too and her presence felt so real that one day.”
“I know I just don’t want you to get your hopes up.” He sighed, getting frustrated with his friend. No one seemed to understand his situation and even he could admit it was strange but nothing felt more right.
“I have to hold out hope and I think he’ll see just how right this is. But look, I gotta go and meet him now. Wish me luck.”
“Good luck, man. Knock ‘em dead.” He just laughed and waved goodbye to his friend, hopefully for the last time in a long time.
“Carter, can we please go do something.” I said while sitting on the floor of his dorm room, books and notebooks scattered in front of me.
“I can’t, I’m still not done studying. Maybe in a little bit.” He had said that an hour ago when she first asked the question.
“But we’ve been studying and doing homework all day! Can’t we just take a little break?” I knew I was whining and sounding immature but… we had been locked away in his dorm room all weekend.
“Nora we have finals next week! We can’t afford to take a break.” I groaned in frustration, threw my pencil down on my notebook and stood up. Carter actually looked up from his notes to give me a quizzical stare.
“I’m going for a walk. I’ll be back in a bit.” I didn’t give him a chance to respond before I went out the door. If he wanted to come, he would follow… and he didn’t. Yes I knew finals were next week but if I studied for another minute my head was going to explode and besides, I was pretty confident that I knew all I needed to know.
Campus was deserted because it was cold and everyone was most likely studying. Usually it was a little too crowded for my liking. I didn’t really have a destination in mind, just walked aimlessly while my mind wondered to a certain blonde haired, green-eyed man. A small, wistful smile touched my lips. What I wouldn’t give to have known him…
Finals came and went and I was feeling pretty confident about my grades. To celebrate, Carter and I were going to have a date night, just the two of us since we didn’t get to do that much anymore. I was really looking forward to some one-on-one time with my boyfriend without worrying about school or anything else. Maybe this was what we needed to rekindle that spark.
I had been in a blissful bubble all day, anxious for our date when Lilly called me.
“Ok so I know you and Carter have this special date planned tonight but I was wondering if you would mind making it a double?” My heart dropped a bit at the thought, but I was willing to listen to what she had in mind.
“And I’m guessing you would be the third party of this date…”
“Yes and I actually met this guy a few days ago at the library. He’s a new student that just transferred from Colorado so I was showing him around campus a bit. Well, we hit it off and he asked me out! But I haven’t been on an actual date in forever so I’m a little nervous,”
“So you want to make it less awkward by doubling with Carter and I, right?”
“I would love you forever if you did this one small, teeny, tiny favor me. Please Nora! This guy seems pretty special.” I inwardly groaned, suddenly hating myself for being such a nice person.
