The next day, I stood facing my closet, trying to figure out what to wear to dinner that night. I usually never had this problem. I would just pick something out and go with it, but I really wanted to look good for a certain someone.

I smiled, thinking about Trevor. That conversation last night had been amazing and I couldn’t wait to see him tonight. I was pleasantly surprised to wake up to a text from him.

I can’t wait for tonight.

I sighed and fingered a green sweater. I really wanted to make an impression but nothing in my closet was speaking to me. I went over to my phone and texted Lilly, asking for her advice. We talked earlier that day and she demanded to know every detail about Trevor. She squealed and giggled when I told her about the mall and last night’s conversation. She seemed really happy about us, which was a relief. It still felt like I stole him from her but she wouldn’t hear it.

“Nope, you guys are perfect for each other. I can just see it- little Nora’s and Trevor’s running around. I’ll be an aunt! Get on it, Nora Johnson!” She was seriously something else. I just laughed and said she was crazy. Her enthusiasm was contagious, however, and I had felt giddy all day long.

Wear that cream sweater dress with your blue leather belt. Pair it with your brown boots and you’re golden! Oh and do something with your hair.

I smiled and shook my head. She knew me way too well. I tried on the outfit she suggested and was more than pleased with the way it looked. My best friend was a genius. I sat down and began the grueling process of curling my hair. I’m no hair stylist and I usually left this up to Lilly, but I would have to go it alone this time. I knew it would be worth it.

Two hours later, and I was ready to go. I was actually impressed with how my hair turned out. Maybe my hair styling skills had a chance after all.

I was just putting on my boots when there came a knock on my door. My mom peaked in and told me Trevor was here. My heart in my throat, I slid on my other boot and quickly left my room, each step making my pulse beat faster. I had given him my address earlier and said we could just drive there together. At the time it sounded like the most logical plan but now it felt more like a date.

When I saw him at the bottom of the steps talking to my Dad, I felt like I was in some cliché teen movie when the girl walks gracefully down the steps towards her high school crush. I just prayed I didn’t fall and make an ass of myself.

Something my Dad said made him laugh and then he saw me, his laughter quickly cutting off but his beaming smile stayed firmly in place. I smiled and held onto the bannister for dear life. Please don’t fall, please don’t fall.

I got down to the last step and Trevor took my hand. I stepped down beside him and I grinned at my Dad, wondering what they had been talking about. It felt really weird introducing him to my family so soon but at the same time it felt like it was long overdue.

“You ready to go, honey?” My Dad asked and I nodded, moving past the two men to grab my coat out of the closet. I felt someone help me put it on and turned my head to see Trevor’s strong hands wrapping it around my shoulders. Fingers shaking, I quickly buttoned my coat and turned towards him. He smirked and took my hand again. We walked outside towards his car, which was a newer looking sedan. I was pleased, hoping that meant he had a good job. I realized then I had no idea if he even had a job. How much did I really know about him?

My thoughts raced and I didn’t even realize we were on the main road when Trevor caught my attention.

“Nora? You ok? You just kinda spaced out on me.” I mentally shook myself and smiled at him, my cheeks flushing.
