Ch 2. Vale's Two Roles

The disastrous event was finally over that led to a silent night, the smell of blood loomed everywhere along with the smoke that was the aftermath of the fire. Everywhere you stepped on resulted a splashy volume since the ruined village was filled with spilled blood and dead corpses.

In the middle of the chaos, Asuka kneeled with her eyes closed, a few tear drops falling through her cheeks as her arms were intertwined together, "Please take care of their souls, Inari-sama." She uttered.

Meanwhile, Vesper lied on a clean pile of leaves, still unconscious as his arms, legs, torso, and even his neck was wrapped in bandages, Ayumu beside him as she was staring at Asuka. The mysterious man, Vale, was sitting quietly as he laid his body to rest, sighing and panting occasionally, "I really am becoming rusty... Or I'm probably just ultimately hungry."

Soon after minutes of silence, Asuka stands up with her knees stained with blood along with the clothes she wore. She wiped off her tears with her sleeves as she faces Vale, walking towards him while still staring at the ground. "Can I ask you something..?"

"Sorry, but I'm a bit exhausted." Vale replied, spreading his body more as he tried to relax more. However, he was met with an awkward silence as Asuka did nothing but stare at him, a bit of hostility coming from her. "Okay, okay. Go ahead." He followed.

"Is this really the only thing this world is capable of?" She asked, taking the katana she had sheathed by her waist as she stared at it, "I've killed a lot of humans with this blade already... I never did thought that I was wrong... No matter how much Nanabi scolded me about it, I felt like it was right actually... 'It's for my mother.' I thought.."

Tears started pouring down her eyes again as she cringed, weeping and sobbing. "Looking back... They wouldn't have found us if we weren't so wild, killing travelers around... They should still be alive right now... Laughing, Smiling... Nanabi, Elder... Seris... I'm sorry..." Her katana falling to the ground as she covered her face with her hands, falling to her knees. "This world is just... just..."

"You have been heard, Asuka." Vale muttered as he stood up, smirking as he looked at Asuka below him. "Do you want to change this world?" Reaching out his hand to her.

Asuka looks up in surprise, gazing into Vale's azure eyes that glinted a beautiful sky, hope, you might say. "Change this...world?" She repeated.

"Take on every opposing forces, and I shall make you the queen of this world." He answered, picking up the katana on the ground as he grabbed Asuka's wrist. He pulled her closer as he resheathed the blade with the scabbard by Asuka's waist and continued, "And I will be your blade."

Ayumu let out a short smile as she was watching, but was shortly interrupted as Vesper sat up, "I thought I heard Asuka was becoming a queen, but thankfully it's just a dream." He suddenly mutters as he shakes his head.

"Asuka, Vesper's awake." Ayumu called, ignoring Vesper's sudden outburst.

"Asuka?" Vesper looked around, looking for the small fox girl he promised to protect. "Did she die too?"

"No, and you're still alive too, idiot." Ayumu retorted.

"Then wher---" He followed, cutting his own words as he saw Asuka with Vale, Vale's hand on the handle of Asuka's katana. "Get your paws off of her you deceiver." He started acting hostile, even though he misunderstood.

"Hm?" Vale reacted as he looked towards him. "I don't exactly have paws." He chuckles, but was cut as he was forced to react as Vesper charged towards him, his arms again turning into furry paws. "But you do." Vale grabbed him by the wrist and ducks below his arm to slide through and stand behind him.

As soon as Vesper looked back, two fists were flying straight for him as he was hit with a smack.

"Don't move too much, idiot." Ayumu commented.

"Don't be such an idiot." Asuka followed.

"What was that for!?" Vesper shouted, a bit puzzled.

"Is this how you thank your savior? Werewolves sure are brutes." Vale teasingly chuckles.

"Lycan! I'm a lycan! Don't compare me to those uncontrollable brutes." Vesper followed.

Asuka sighed upon the pitiful sight before her before she spoke, "Say your prayers for everyone. We're leaving as soon as the sun rises." She declared.

"Prayers? Wait, why?" Vesper asked.

"Are you oblivious or something? Look around you." Ayumu replied.

"W-what about Nanabi? S-Seris? The Elder? Lu...naria..?" Vesper asked, panicked as he realized the situation that happened, but he was answered with silence as gloom showed on Asuka's and Ayumu's face. Tears soon started flowing down his eyes as his body shivered, his eyes lost light as he stared at the moon. He howled, echoing throughout the forest as he cried. "I failed to protect them..." He wept, somehow soulless. "I couldn't even be there when they needed me..."

As the young lycan wept, Vale on the other hand, started walking closer to him, raising his knee up when he could reach him. He arched his feet to side and with one sweep, kicked Vesper by the head as he knocked him down to the ground. "Stop weeping about what you couldn't do, focus on what you can and pray for their souls. You still have a duty to do, so go and protect these two girls." Vale advised, a huge smirk soon appearing on his face as he stared at Vesper. "I'll make you stronger."
