The Battle of Heroes

Chapter 4 Enter the Heroes of Strength

 

I have to say that after Jake gave me the news about the fire that I created that burned down  my high school. I was so depressed that as I walked the earth began to swallow me up. We had to stop three different times and dig me out. 30 people had died in the fire it makes me wish that Jessie had killed me but luckily my teacher had survived and told them that I had died in the blast.  We came out of the ground in a large clearing about eight miles out of town and way the hell away from Sarah's ranch. "You said you knew where we were going.” Jake yelled.

“I do know where I’m going Jake, but I felt the earth pull me this way I don’t know why but something told me to come this way.”

“Come on Sarah I’m worried about Mike, he's not looking so good."

"I,m ok Lin we need to keep moving." 

"Huh but Mike?" wined Lin.

"No!" shouted Jake "Something isn't right not to michin i need to change those bandages, will wait here for now." to my surprise no one disagreed cause weather we wanted to admit it we all felt the earth pull us toward this location. I propped up against a tree and set down on its roots so to keep my self from sinking in to the dirt, just as i got settled I saw Lin come right for me only to be cut off buy Jake. "Lin go help Sarah with the perimeter i need to talk to mike alone for a min, please. She pouted and made here way to the edge of the clearing while Jake turned and preceded toward me. 

"Sup Doc?" he smiled and started pulling out a towel out of his backpack and draped it over my lap.

"May I?" he asked holding out his hands, I lifted my left arm about 5 inches off the ground. as he undid the straps on my arm he leaned in and whispered in my ear so low i was barley able to make it out. "Stay as still as possible and listen there are two people watching us and by this time Sarah and Lin have already noticed." i glanced around and saw Sarah about 12 feet to my right scanning the trees pausing on the tree up against my back looked in to my eyes and moved on scanning the rest of the trees. to my left Lin stood about 20 feet away staring at me fire burning in her eyes, her fist clenched she turned away from me and put her back toward the center of the clearing without them saying a word I understood loud and clear there was at lest two of them and one was right above my head "OK Mike it looks good, its healing nicely." he said out loud.

making the decision to play along quickly i asked "Healing, i thought it took weeks for a gun shot wound to heal."

He smiled. "Well it normally would, but the gauntlets give us a major boost on healing and since you only just fused with your gauntlets its triply for you." (SNAP) went a twig over my head i ignored it but Jake's smiled deepened. at the sight of his eagerness my mind went racing tyring to figure out my he had just gotten happier after a second it crept in to my mind just as Jessie's laugh had crept up my spine three days ago, she had said it and Jason scolded her for it but. It had just hit me the fear in her eyes and the way she tried to make here self sound bigger then she was, i was more powerful then the others at least for now anyway. Jake leaned in to fasten my gauntlet back on and whispered. "If you want to fight grunt in pain." so i did, he stood up held out his hand to help me up.

as i pulled my self to my feet breathed and said. "Lets be diplomats." he studied my face for a sec and nodded i turned and walked up to Sarah and repeated the three words and she smirked like i had just told her a dirty joke, I turned toward Lin just to see a clueless look on her face. smiling i turned back toward the tree i had just been sitting under on to see a blue flash land right in front of me.

The young boy that stood in front of me could only be described as a worrier out of time. He stood about 4 feet 8 inches tall sandy blond hair, looked to be about 12 years old. he wore what looked like steal plated boots that stopped at his knees Baggy blue pants, a studied blue belt, black shirt with metal plats covering his stomach and uperarms a blue headband and on his firearms where the gauntlets of Strength, and last but not least where his eyes the where blue and i don't mean blue irises i mean solid blue. he stood with his right arm stretched out holding a katana with the blade resting on the side of my neck. "Move and I sware I will kill you where you stand." the worrier threatened.  Jake took a step forward the worrier shot his left hand out toward him, the embroidery on his left gauntlet glowed and another katana appeared in his hand, the tip of the blade only a inch away from Jake's chest. "Don't make me repeat my self."

"easy we don't want any trouble where just passing through." he studied me for a sec cocked his head to the left and spoke.

"Tommy, any word from Cassy yet?" another boy dropped out of the trees right behind Lin. Now this one looked like a pirate; brown leather boots coming to mid cafe dark blue canvas pants White sash around his waist blue puffy shirt brown leather vest a blue bandanna covering his head and what looked like chain mail sticking out from his vest and pant legs. Tommy looked to be about 19 and had a kind of swagger when he walked. he strolled up behind Lin and rested a hand on her right shoulder, holding out his glowing left hand a silver curved dagger about 2 feet in length appeared in his hand. as he touched the tip of the blade to the small of her back she inhaled filling her lungs with air and held it, Sarah and Jake quickly copied Lin, and at the same time all three of them slowly breathed out. the wind around us immediately picked up the worrier in front of me stumbled backwards dropping his swords to cover his eyes, mean while Tommy had lost his grip on Lin's shoulder. Jake stepped closer to me grabbed my good arm and had to yell over the wind  just to be heard.

"Where leaving." he stomped the ground and a hole 4 feet wide opened up in front of us and Jake preceded to push me in, Which he soon followed and we fell and contained to fall for about 5 min and Finley what looked like the bottom was coming up fast only for it to disappear i looked up and realized why. Jake had been hitting and kicking the walls the entire way down so much to the point his hands were bleeding. another few minutes later our hole opened up in to a bigger one, in which he where joined by Lin and Sarah. Sarah had seemed to have had the same idea as Jake, cause her hands where bloody as well. Lin was angled head first she had her hands out in front of hear as if she was reaching in to the dark looking for something but every muscle in her body had gone rigged as if she was moving a gargantuan force. there was a snag on the back of my coat, i looked up and saw Jake saying something but his words where lost in the wind it took me a few minutes to make out what he was saying. he wanted me to slow us down, so i closed my eyes and focused on what was around me. i had nothing but air to work with and i remembered how they all had just blowed to make that dust storm earlier so i gave it a try, and after one good blow i felt the air leave my lungs it shot forward increasing in speed and pressure. i felt the air hit the bottom and bounce back and as the air hit us we came to an almost complete stop.

"Lin is it ready?" Jake asked 

" yes but its a 4 mile ride we should come out at the lake on Sarah's ranch the water way is just under the bottom there." she pointed down, about 10 feet down was the bottom and we where still slowly dropping toward it.

Lin moved closer to me and kissed me on the cheek and looked in to my eyes, and i saw it again the mischief of a 8 year old "Sarah, Jake  we'll see you at the ranch OK." With that she rapped her arms around my chest and we plunged head first toward the thin crust below us with all the force of a cannon. as we tore through the bottom we where enveloped in a funnel of water and sucked through a long under water cavern. it took me a few minutes to force my eyes open and then i realized i could breath the water it was weird it felt like i was chocking but with out the pain or the dieing, then there was this beautiful sound; it was coming from Lin but it was muffled she was laughing at me.

all in all there is no water park in the world that could ever give you the thrill that this route gave us.
