"Mel!" All of us ran to the door which we already knew was locked.

"Open the fucking door and let her go Adalyn!" Celia slammed her fist against the centre of the splintered wood in an effort to open it.

"Of course," Adalyn said loud enough so that we could hear her from where she stood. "But only if one of you will play with me instead."

We were all shocked by her implications.

"You know, I think I'll start with the pinky." Adalyn said to herself loudly so we could all hear her.

Snap. Snap. Snap.

A loud cry of pain erupted from inside the locked room, but it was quickly muffled.

"Quiet now." Adalyn tutted. Before adding with a hint of amusement in her voice. "You've still got 203 to go."

"Adalyn!" Celia yelled once more, banging on the door again.

The grotesque sound of cracking and snapping continued until I lost count.

"You're not left-handed, are you?" Adalyn said before a particularly loud snap. "Oops, there goes the wrist."

"Bones." Claire whispered, her eyes were widened in horror."She's breaking Mel's bones."

"Shit." Celia muttered, then continued to pound on the door.

"This would stop if one of you wants to have fun with me instead." Adalyn called out, adding a loud. "185 to go!"

"That's 21 bones." Claire said quietly.

There was another unbearably loud snapping sound. "Tick tock!" Adalyn sang.

I was having a moral catastrophe in my mind. Alec and Claire cared about Mel, but not enough to volunteer their lives. And Celia was the only person keeping us alive up to this point. Which meant the obvious sacrifice would be me.

I took a deep shuddering breath, "I'll-"

I was interrupted by a hand being shoved against my mouth.

"Don't even think about it," Celia said. "You should at least give your elders a chance to look cool."

"Wait, you don't mean..." Alec trailed off.

Celia grinned and turned to me, "tell Beth I was planning on dumping her anyways."

"I thought you two were doing well?" I questioned. I was still in the middle of processing what was about to happen.

"We are." Celia dug through the pocket of her jeans and placed a ring into my palm. "But if you show her that, she would never get over me."

Celia knocked on the door once more, less panicked than before. "Adalyn, I want to come in."

I could almost hear the young girl smiling.

The door clicked open as if to welcome Celia.

Mel flew out of the room, nearly crashing into the wall. I caught her right before she could take on any more damage.

"Shall we begin our playdate?" Adalyn asked sweetly.

"Fuck you." Celia said before walking past the brunette.

"Well that's not very nice." Adalyn said. Then the door slammed shut again, except this time, the victim was willing.
