"Most embarrassing moment?"
"Promise not to laugh?"
"But the point of this question is to laugh at the other person's misfortune."
"Argh! Fine!" I say. We were now in the kitchen sitting on the island bench, slowly eating our sandwiches. "So when I was 10, I went to the town fair with my mum and well...I was on a ride and as soon as I was buckled up, I needed to...uhm...pee."
Edward starts chuckling and I shoot him a glare. "Sorry, continue," He stops.
"Thank you. Anyway the ride started and I was busting. By the end of the ride, I kinda...pissed my pants..." I say shying up.
There's a silence for a few seconds then Edward bursts out into a laughing fit.
"It's not that funny!" I shout over his laugh, crossing my arms and glaring at him.
"YES! It...Is!" He says between laughs.
"What's so funny?" I look at the door to the kitchen and see my dad walking in.
Edward stops laughing and looks at me. Suddenly, the room shifts into an awkward and tense mood. He has concern all over his face and I give him a look saying 'don't speak'.
"Oh...nothing," I say still looking at Edward.
"Didn't sound like nothing," he says. I hear him open and close the fridge.
Edward looks at me, conversing with his eyes. Calm down. He can notice my tense posture, and the fact my hands are gripping on to the plate that is resting in my lap.
I nod in reply to Edward, and my dad speaks, "Good to see you two talking again," that made both Edward and I whip our heads around to look at him. He didn't know...did he? "I heard you were moving out, Edward," he asks Edward, looking at him with a stern look on his face.
He moves to the table, where we should be sitting, and sits in front of us, looking at us.
"Uhh...yeah, I'm moving on Wednesday," He says looking from me to my dad.
"That's nice. Where to?" He asks Edward, whilst sipping on his beer.
Why is he asking all these questions? He doesn't care...so why?
"It's an apartment a few minutes away," he says rather calmly.
"What about school?" he asks. Okay. What is going on?
"I need to go to the bathroom," I quickly say, using it as an excuse so I can get up and leave the room.
Why does he have to pretend like he cares?
I stay out in the hallway for a few minutes, attempting to calm down Deciding that I would have finished in the bathroom by now, I turn to walk back into the kitchen. When I'm about to open the door, it opens for me. Please don't yell, please don't yell.
I take in dad's features and you could say that pissed was an understatement.
"Uhh...hey there..." I awkwardly say.
"Shut up and move out of my fucking way." He pushes me against the wall so he could get through.
I slide down holding my right shoulder and trying to hold back the tears. What the heck?!
I few minutes passes and I gain enough strength to get up. I slowly walk into the kitchen trying to not move my arm.
I look up and see that Edward is looking out the window with his back towards me.
Something must have happened whilst I wasn't in here. And I don't think Edward heard me walk in.
"Edward...?" I softly say.
I saw his back tense through his white t-shirt.
"What?" He asks, sounding a bit angry.
"Woah. What's wrong?" I ask. Something definitely happened. Damn these soundproof rooms.
He turns to face me, anger clearly shown on his face.
"Nothing's wrong. What makes you think that?" He asks. "Are you dumb or something?"
"What? Edward...?" I say quietly. Why is he acting like this. He's been so nice.
"I can't believe this," Edward says, shaking his head, turning to look out the window again.
I slowly approach him, taking slow steps, trying to not make any sudden movements. "Edward. What's going on? What can't you believe?"
Edward scoffs. Yeah, he scoffs. "I hope you know, that nothing, nothing will ever happen between us. Never again."
What? "Edward! Look at me," I say to him, but he ignores me, slightly shaking his head. I grasp his shoulder, with my good arm, and turn him to face me. "Why the fuck would you say that? Who said anything about us ever getting back together? I thought we were just having fun, as friends. That's all..."
Edward glares at me and something flashed through his eyes, but then it was gone as soon as it came. I give up arguing and turn away and start walking out, slamming the door behind me.
I'm almost in the front hall when a hand grabs my elbow, on my good arm, and turns me around sharply.
"Baylee, listen," Edward says, looking at me with this longing spark in his eye.
"Oh. So now you want to talk," I say, with a bitchy tone, and glaring at him.
He pushes me gently to the wall next to us and traps me between his arms, which are placed on the wall next to my head.
"Fucking shut up and listen to me!" He whisper/shouts.
I open my mouth to say something but he gives me a warning look and I close it.
"Thank-you," He sighs running his hand through his hair. "I care for you, you know that right?"
I nod.
"Well, then remember that. Always fucking remember that," he says. Giving me one last look and turning to walk away.
What? Why do I have to remember that. "Why should I believe you? You sure didn't act like you cared for me a minute ago."
"I need you to trust me," he says stopping. Turning his head so he can look at me. "I know I most likely lost your trust. But just trust. At least for now."
"Sure," I whisper. And with that, Edward turned around and walked up his stairs, and most likely to his room.
Sinking down, I am reminded of memories from five years ago. Dad coming home, most likely from the bar, stinking like beer, piss and vomit. Yelling at mum and I, and mum yelling at me to go to my room. The amount of times I was hesitant to listen, because I didn't want her to get hurt, was unbelievable. And now, dad drinking that beer earlier, it's starting to make me worry. I really like Anne, and I don't want her to end up like mum.
Oh shit. My arm. Fuck. I think it's dislocated. I yell out, to any one, and Edward comes rushing back down.
"My shoulder," I croak out.
"Come on. Let's get you to a hospital," He says.
