There had been no time for shoes. Severus and Hermione ran after the spark, racing across the corridor of the hotel. The red spark carried on zooming above them, twisting and turning through nooks and corners.
The pair ran down a flight of stairs and then towards the end of a narrow corridor. The spark slowed down, taking a short turn to the left before vanishing in front of a door.
Severus took a deep breath and Hermione bent down slightly holding her knees. They were equally out of breath, equally confused and secretly, excited. Had they really found their culprit that easily?
"Hermione, can it really be this simple?" As a former spy for The Order, Severus could usually tell if things had been set up to look a certain way. This coincidence reeked of planning. It wasn't possible for them to run into their target whilst accidentally side tracking away from their original plans. Deep inside, her gut feeling was pretty much the same as his. It couldn't have been by coincidence, but if it was then Severus and she were very lucky indeed.
"It can be if we choose it to be."
Hermione reached for the handle of the door with a shaky hand. She yanked fiercely...but the door was locked. She tried again to make sure that she was certain but it was no use, the door still remained locked.
Severus knew that it wouldn't be that easy. He knew that in order to be a successful criminal, you had to do many things. A criminal was resourceful, alert, perceptive but most important of all, a criminal was ready.
"Hermione, it will not work." He read her mind and watched as she took her wand out. She muttered the unlocking charm, and then pulled down the door handle. She screamed out of frustration. They had been so close. She could taste the victory on her tongue but it turned bitter, like the taste of rusted metal inside her mouth. She took a look at the area- the first proper one since they had arrived. Hermione had taken note that the corridor had been newly painted ( there was a slight change in colour from the middle as opposed to the front of the corridor ) but there was only a single room. Across the door, there was the number 16 in shiny lettering.
"I have a suggestion Hermione, that could help us both very dearly." Severus said in a hushed voice. He grabbed her wrist with a loose grip and walked pacily back to their room. They passed a little girl on floor four and a couple on floor three who seemed to forget that corridors were not a suitable place for intimate relations. Severus wished that that were he and Hermione, if it had been, he wouldn't care about who was watching.
They reached their room in record time thanks to Severus's walking. He had a plan. He knew what had to happen and how.
"We have to know the name of the person in room 16. We cannot ask for it, even these dimwitted muggles know better than to disclose personal information. You must, I am sincerely sorry for this, use your femininity to persuade the receptionist into giving you his information." Severus watched as Hermione blushed pink.
"You want me to flirt?" Hermione sounded embarassed. She couldn't bring herself to look in his eyes. The idea was preposterous, totally insane.
"Not flirt," He looked at his hands nervously. "Seduce."
Hermione snorted with a great deal of force. She hadn't really taken his words seriously. How could she seduce anyone?
"You're not serious right? I can barely walk on my two feet without tripping over. How do you expect me to use my body to seduce anyone?"
Severus could not disagree more. She had the beauty to attract anyone, with her big amber eyes, perfectly pink lips and her slender physique, anyone who didn't fall for her was not human. Once you got to know her more, it was like unwrapping the best Christmas gift that you had ever received. She could only become more amazing with each day, her intellect of both muggle and wizarding world was incredibly vast and she had courage enough to be friends with Harry Potter, who lets be honest, had a knack for attracting trouble of various sorts.
