When I went into school the next day, I saw Alex standing at her locker and went up to her.
"Hey," I said, secretly worrying that she would change her mind now we were at school and want nothing to do with me.
Thankfully, she said hi back. "I took a ton of tests last week," she told me, "and now they've sorted me into classes."
I looked at her timetable, "we have English together first," I pointed out, "Music later on... and Art last... I sit alone in all of them," I blushed, thinking she might as well hear about that now, "don't feel like you have to sit next to me."
"Who else would I want to sit next to?" She laughed. Then she looked at me seriously, "listen... we need to talk."
My heart sank. That couldn't be good.
"I was really drunk on Saturday, when I kissed you. And... although I do think you're great... And I do really like you... I just can't be in a relationship or anything right now."
"Oh. Okay." I knew it was too good to be true.
"Please don't be sad... like I said, there's definitely... feelings. But with this being a new town and a new school and stuff, I kind of have to settle in and stuff first."
I knew what she meant. I understood. I wished she felt differently, but it wasn't the worst situation ever.
"We can still be friends, right?" I made myself smile.
"Definitely," she smiled back.
That was something. Friends was good. Better than nothing at least.
