"Niggas gon' always be niggas
Can't afford to give my heart to these niggas
Ain't got time to lose my mind to these niggas..."

She threw down her pen and downed the rest of her vodka in frustration. As she scanned the crowd and heard the thumping bass of Beyonce's "Formation", she immediately regretted coming to a bar for inspiration. She also regretted asking for alcohol when she knew good and damn well she wasn't twenty one yet.

One year away isn't such a big difference, she thought.

She knew she needed to be getting home, but she remembered how unwelcoming home was right then.

She was tired of crying.

She was tired of beating herself up about it.

She was tired of Dre.

"Wasssup, LA!" The DJ said suddenly, taking her out of her thoughts. "Tonight, we have, not one, but two very special and unexpected guests here tonight!"

Two? Oh, right. I'm the second-and unexpected - guest.

"Ladies, I know you ready for Dre Dexter!"

Her heart sank as she faced the stage. She had forgotten about Dre's performance.

A crowd began to form around the stage, but it wasn't enough people to block her view from him.

There was no escape.

The spotlight appeared on his covered face, the crowd went wild.

She could feel his eyes on her.

As soon as the "Exchange" intro began, the crowd went wild once again.

'Lani was ready to go.

"This what happen when I think 'bout you," he began. "I get in my feelings, yeah
I start reminiscing, yeah."

"Next time around, fuck I want it to be different, yeah

Waiting on a sign, guess it's time for a different prayer

Lord please save her for me, do this one favor for me

I had to change my player ways, got way too complicated for me

I hope she's waiting for me..."

Why he looked at her immediately after this part of the song 'Lani had no clue

Why he looked at her immediately after this part of the song 'Lani had no clue.

Throughout his entire performance, he was aiming parts of the song at her, and 'Lani was lowkey getting pissed off. Then again, she liked how discreet he was being with it. After all, their five-year relationship was unknown to most, especially the press.

"You got my soul, Keh," he said suddenly. This time, he didn't look at her, and unfortunately, he didn't have to.

'Lani blinked the tears out of her eyes and headed backstage, making sure to not run into Dre in the process.

"Keh," he whispered.

Shit. Lucky me.

She couldn't look him in his eyes again; he'd always have that hypnotic effect on her.

"I've got a show to do, Dre," she uttered coldly.

As soon as she entered the dressing room, the words she was looking earlier for had finally come to her mind.

"I'm glad I brought my instrumentals with me," she said to herself.

By the end of her performance, 'Lani was in tears. Dre had stayed to see, but left when he realized the concept of the song.

Good riddance.
