Michael's POV
"Momma what's going on, she's freaking me out. Why does she sleep over here when she has a perfectly good bed in her house? Some of us have to sleep." I glared at Latoya in pure disgust while I clutched Liyah as close as humanly possible, hoping that my arms and embrace would somehow calm her. I watched my mother smack Toya hard upside the head.
"Watch your mouth, I will not have such ignorance in here; not in my house."
Liyah struggled out of my arms and bolted toward the front door while I quickly charged after her and didn't catch her until we were out in the middle of the road.
"AALIYAH, STOP!" she stopped dead in her tracks and looked back across the street to me. I hated that she looked so vulnerable, other than her usual confident stature. it absolutely broke my heart that someone had broken her down like this to the point that she didn't even feel safe in her own house. I had barely ever seen her sleep soundly and when she did she was extremely restless and scared.
"Liyah, please. No one's going to hurt you, OK?" She looked past me and I had a feeling that she was looking at toya. " Don't pay attention to her, she's just tired and being arrogant. Just focus on me babygirl... OK?" I saw headlights from a distance away and instantly bolted to the other side to get to my world.
Come back with me ok? Then we can go watch movies or somethin' while we eat, how does that sound?" She looked away from my eyes, still processing everything that just happened. She looked in my eyes and slowly nodded, and I gave her a small smile and went to pick her up. She never liked it when I picked her up because she didn't like that she was smaller than I was and it made her feel like a "baby", but I figured she needed to be pampered. She easily let me scoop her up in bridal style and my heart broke a little at the fact that she just didn't care what happened right now.
I slowly and carefully made our way back to Havenhurst and carried her inside as she his her face as deep as she could into my shoulder. I nodded upstairs hoping to signal everyone to go to bed. Mother got the memo and quickly shooed everyone upstairs.
I softly place liyah on the wide, soft and very brown couch in the middle of the wide living room and made my way to the CD player on the TV. I waited for everything to turn on as I carefully watched my best friend snuggle and almost completely cover herself in the large gray square patterned comforter with her dark black hair in a beautiful flowing mess atop her head with her dark gray eyes piercing into mine. I could never express how much this girl drove me crazy, she was undeniably my earth, my sun, my moon and the one reason that I put up with people. She has always given me a reason to pursue my dreams and to believe in myself. I turned back to the TV and watched as the previews began to roll through. I slowly struggled to get up, a cause of my recently diagnosed curse of Lupus, and slightly panicked as liyah began to get up. I finally got up with extremely creaky joints and softly pushed her back into the couch and gave her a soft , heartfelt kiss on her smooth, dark forehead. I ran to make a few snacks made from what I could find in our deserted kitchen. I placed them on the small table and liyah lifted the top of her body and patted the space allowing me to scoot in as close to her as possible. She rested her head on my shoulder and slightly brought her feet up to barely slide under my thighs.
