chapter 5

After two-bit tripped over his legs about 3 times, Johnny stopping to pet a women's dog and dally running into countless people, they were jumping over a fence and running to the school entrance.
"What time is it?" Dally asked.
"I don't know." Two-bit said, Johnny shrugging his arms in agreement
They stood around for a few minutes. Johnny sat on the ground to catch his breath along with two-bit.
The schools bell rang and a few students came spilling out.
The three men looked around for their friend from where they stood till Johnny bolted up quickly saying he found him and trotting over.
Dally and two-bit followed suit after him.
"Hey there pony," Dally grinned roughly wrapping an arm around ponys neck and digging his knuckles into his head.
"Ow what hell!?..." Pony yelped wriggling away from dally who loosened his grip on him.
"What are you guys doing here?" Pony asked looking genuinely surprised.
"We missed ya can't ya tell. Got any plans?" Two-bit asked.
"Yeah I was gonna drop something off to Soda really quick and hope that I make it back here in time." Pony replied laughing a little.
"We're ya gonna run?" Johnny asked discouragedly.
"Yeah why?"
"We just ran a block in a half." Dally replied getting a little irritated.
"We could just walk fast?" Pony suggested. "Then I can run back."
"Yeah sure." Two-bit agreed beginning to walk with pony.
Dally and Johnny followed walking a little ways behind.
About a block away from where Soda was dally poked johnny
"Need a smoke?" He asked, taking out a cigarette carton from his jacket.
"Oh hell yeah!" Johnny breathed.
Dally used his already lit cigarette to light Johnny's and handed it to him.
"Man I needed this..." He murmured taking a long breath in then blowing the smoke out of his mouth,closing his eyes and leaning his head back a little.
Dally twitched a little at the action, it looked kinda hot....
Dally bit his inner cheek to get the stupid thought out of his head. He looked ahead and saw pony and two-bit having a grand ol chat.
"Hey Johnny?"
"Hmmm...?" Johnny replied , opening his eyes and taking another drag of the cigarette.
"You wanna stay with me again tonight?"
"Yeah!" Johnny answered excitedly.
"....That was quick,.." Dally raised an eyebrow at the more then thrilled sounding answer. "I thought you didn't like sleeping with me?" He teased.
Johnny looked at his wolfish grin and felt his face his face heat up the slightest bit.
"If it means not having to go home I don't care." Johnny replied, his face was starting to feel hotter, and hoped that dally would start another topic, but of course dally noticed the pinkish tinge on johnny's face and decided not to let up.
"Did you enjoy last night?" Dallys playful expression became discerning.
"WHAT! No! Why would I have enjoyed last night!what are you trying to say...." Johnny stared at angrily dally for his accusation.
Dally raised his arms in defense hastily. "FINE! Jesus!" He shot a quick glare at Johnny and started walking a little quicker up to where two-bit and ponyboy had stopped.
Johnny immediately regretted getting so angry and walked up to the side of pony.
They all started walking again. Awhile after pony nudged johnnys arm who was looking the ground to look I up at him, pony and two-bit both had muddled expressions and two-bit made a quick move with his head towards dally who was on the side of him.
Johnny looked miserable which freaked them out a bit. Two-bit rubbed the back of his neck. Pony looked at him and shrugged.
The rest of the walk felt long and quiet, with dally being in a bad mood, pony and two-bit being too scared to talk and johnny replaying what had happened over in his head, trying to figure out what got him so mad.
When they got to the dx it was like a weight had been lifted. One look at sodas warm smile and everyone felt happier.
"Why you guys here? Pony you should be at school?" He asked getting up from under a car.
Pony threw a coin at him that he took out of his pocket. "You forgot your lunch money."
"Ooohh i was wondering it was i thought i dropped it or something."he replied.
"Where's steve?" Two-bit asked.
"Inside getting something." Soda replied, standing up. He looked over towards Dallas who was looking over towards Johnny, he could tell he was in a mood but why the hell was he staring at Johnny?
"What the hell got you so pissy winston?" He asked walking over to him and putting a hand on his shoulder.
Two-bit who was still standing next to him shot soda a look that said "don't" but the borderline orange hair teen didn't notice and just smiled at dally.
Johnny looked up from the ground and looked at pony who returned the stare.
"Why the hell would you care?" His voice thick with hostility.
"Well, I couldn't help but see you were starei-" he quickly stopped his cocky sentence when he heard steve shouting. "SODA!THERE GONNA HAVE OUR HEADS IF WE DON'T FIX THIS DAMMED CAR!"
Soda and two-bit both walked back over to Steve while pony put a hand on johnny's shoulder.
"Are you two fighting, what happened ?" He asked leaning in closely hoping Dallas wouldn't hear him. "I don't know why are you asking?"
"You seemed really upset when he yelled at you and whatever happened got him in a mood. It's just I've never actually seen him get mad at you like that." He shrugged pulling away. "Oh.." Johnny replied.
"PONY!" They both turned to see soda calling them over.
Pony punched johnnys arm lightly and ran over. Johnny realized that dally joined two-bit and Steve and decided to follow pony.
"You should probably getting back to school, your lunch breaks almost over." His voice was smooth and calm which made Johnny smile a little.
"Yeah....I'll see you guys later." He grinned then started running down to the sidewalk and down the road.
Soda had a soft almost proud expression, it became a little more serious as he looked towards two-bit and the others. "You guys gonna come over later on tonight?"
"Sure" Steve said amusingly and looked towards soda.
"I know your coming over." He smirked pushing Steve's face away.
"Uh I don't know probably." Two-bit shrugged. "Anyways I should probably get going. You guys coming he asked looking at dally and johnny.
"Yeah, come on Johnny!" He sterned. Johnny let out a sigh, at least he was talking to him.
"Alright see ya guys later." Steve said.
"You too." Two-bit replied walking away with dally and Johnny behind him.
When they got back to two-bits it was late in the afternoon. They said goodbye to two-bit then dally told Johnny to get back in the car.
Johnny got a tad anxious getting into the car.
Dallas opened the drivers side and got in starting it up.
They sat quietly for a bit.
The car smelled like stale cigarette smoke, the air was muggy and hot from the sun beating down on it.
Johnny picked at the leather coming off of the seat. Dally breathed in and looked at him, running a hand through his blond hair.
"Hey,listen, Johnny....I uh...didn't mean to get mad at you, earlier."
Johnny stopped picking at the seat and turned to dally.
"I...I shouldn't of yelled.." Johnny replied.
"Nuh uh." Dally snapped pulling out of the driveway.
"W-what?" He felt his stomach drop.
"Stop trying to say it was your fault it was mine! I shouldn't of kept on to you, which got you angry so it's my fault." Dally took a quick look to johnny, just long enough to get a look at his deep brown eyes then turned back to the road.
The younger male felt a little confused. Dallas winston just apologized to him?
"Hey dal,.? Wy did you ask that anyways?"
Dally froze and johnny thought he hit a nerve or something by the way dally reacted.
"I....uh" He paused,biting his lip for awhile then continued.
"I'm don't goddammit know!" He shifted uncomfortably in his seat.
Johnny was getting suspicious.
"It's just us dal....ya know I keep my lips shut." He probed.
Dally pressed down I little on the gas pedal in discomfort then looked over to johnny who's face had become serious. Johnny usually had the expression of a sad puppy but now he looked like the way eden described the wolves from up north, still,serious and calm, he never thought that would stick in his head.
He took a deep breathe and looked towards the road.
"I... I just want ya to feel safe I guess."
"What?" Johnny asked.
Dallys face got a tad pink and he didn't face johnny.
"I want you to feel safe with me, man like what if you felt uncomfortable with sleeping in the same bed I-....ya know."
Johnny face turned red and he turned to the window.
"I understand."
They sat in silence while dally drove around whenever.
After 10 minutes in awkward silence and hot fall air dally started speaking.
"Are you still gonna stay the night or do you want me to take you home..?" He asked.
"I wanna stay with you. I don't care about sleeping with you." Johnny answered.
"Wanna drive around for an hour or so?" Dally finally turned to look at him.
Johnny looked at dallys eyes, they were usually cold and unforgiving but now they seemed calm like lake water.
"Hell yeah!" Johnny beamed.
Dally grinned and put an arm on the back of his seat.
"Dirt road?"
"Yep."
