"Mum?" The cry drifted down the passage to my sleeping ears.
"Wha-?" I answered, groggily.
"Mum!"
Rubbing my eyes, I got reluctantly out of bed and staggered down the passage.
"What's the matter?" I asked, peering into Johnny's room.
He was sitting straight up in bed, the covers clutched tight in each hand.
"There's a monster under my bed!"
"No there isn't," I assured him. "You just had a bad dream."
I brought him a glass of water. "Now, back to sleep with you young man."
I left, yawning. Kids!
Under the bed, eight eyes glowed red in the dark.
