After the final bell rang, indicating the end of the school day, students gathered their belongings and headed home. But not Momoi and I. We stayed a little later, savouring the final moments of the day before we had to deal with the unavoidable rush of assignments and responsibilities that awaited us at home.
I walked towards the iron gates, whirling around to look at Momoi. From across the school grounds, she smiled warmly and arched her eyebrows playfully. We waved to each other as if we had known each other for years.
"See you tomorrow, [y/n]-chan!" Her voice echoed in the vastness of the setting sky.
"See you tomorrow! Thank you for today!" I replied, my voice full of optimism. Momoi always maintains a pleasant, compassionate demeanour, particularly towards Aomine. I couldn't stop wondering if there was more to their relationship.
My mind was stuck on repeat from the day's events as I walked home. And who was the main attraction in my head? Yes, the blue-haired grump with anger management issues. I could see why Wakamatsu lost his cool with Aomine's lack of fundamental manners and poor temper. Aomine was extremely gifted, yet he treated a basketball like it was yesterday's leftover sushi. It's puzzling.
As I approach my grandmother's house, I announce myself as I enter through the front door. "Grandma, I'm home!" I exclaim as a small figure shuffles into the hallway.
"How was your first day at Tōō [y/n]?" She asks, nearly with the same fervour that I had experienced that afternoon.
"Well!" I chuckled for a moment. "It was definitely eventful," I respond, eliciting a giggle in return.
"I know it's only the second day of your arrival, but it's nice to see you settling in." A genuine smile spread over her blushed lips.
"It's all thanks to you."
This might be something to look forward to, at the very least. This year may hold some unexpected surprises. With Grandma's love and support, I knew I could overcome any challenges at Tōō Academy. As I sat down for supper with her, I couldn't help but be grateful for her presence in my life. I was confident that this year would be filled with thrilling experiences and priceless memories with her by my side.
