I quickly ran a comb through my hair and gave my teeth a thorough brush. Then I put on my school uniform – freshly laundered and ironed, thanks to Grandma's magic touch. I draped my backpack over my shoulder, wrestling with the straps until they felt just right.
Heading out, I began my walk to the bus stop. The road veered and turned, passing a few sleepy houses along the way. The morning air was fresh, and I couldn't help but enjoy the quiet stroll.
I eventually made it to our small town's bus station. It's nothing fancy, but the granite floor always makes me feel like I'm somewhere important. I jumped on the bus, ready for the 20-minute ride to school.
Before I knew it, we were pulling up to Tōō Academy. As I stepped off the bus, I couldn't help but feel a combination of excitement and nerves. Who knows what my first day will bring? With a quick deep breath to mentally prepare myself, I walked through the gates, ready to take on whatever the day threw at me...
The pale pink sakura petals floated against the bright blue sky as a sea of students swarmed around the school building. I felt a wave of nausea and anxiety hit me as I stood there, frozen at the entrance, feeling a bit like an outsider.
"Oh... hey! You're the new transfer, right?" A petite girl with rose-coloured hair asked, her curiosity evident.
"Yeah, that's me. I'm [y/n]. What's your name?" I replied, trying to sound friendly.
"I'm Momoi Satsuki! It's great to meet you, [y/n-chan]!" She grinned widely, her soft pink lips curling into a smile, before she let out a little sigh.
"I'm sorry to ask you this on your first day, but would you mind doing me a small favour?" The innocent and persuasive shimmer in her almost puppy-dog eyes was impossible to refuse.
"There's somebody that's missing practice..." "Again", she adds, "and I need these clipboards in the gym before we start; could you take them for me?" She looked at me like I was her last hope.
How could I turn her down?
"Yeah, sure. But, uh, where am I going exactly? First-day newbie here," I chuckled, tilting my head and grabbing the box from her.
My arms stoop a little as the weight drops in my overextended arms.'Yikes, either I'm seriously out of shape or these clipboards are secretly made of concrete.'
"You're a lifesaver!" Momoi beamed, looking super relieved. "The gym's that way. If you get lost, just ask anyone around. Catch ya later!" She waves me off excitedly as she hurriedly sprints around the corner of the building.
Well, that was one heck of a first interaction. Now, which way did she point again?
