Joey's POV
What could have happened to Shane? I don't like the way he sounded. It wasn't right. He should be the happy, and bubbly person I fell for, not the hurt-sounding one I just conversed with.
Directly after I hung up with Shane, I grabbed my keys and ran down my car. I rushed to his house, not really paying attention to the speed limit. After about twenty minutes, I was there hurriedly parking my car, and all but running up to his door. I knocked hastily three times, and it opened almost instantly, revealing a wet faced, and mildly distressed-looking Shane with a small bag over his shoulder. I brought my hand up to his face without thinking, and wiped a stray tear away with the pad of my thumb. He looked more worried than sad which I thought was strange. He smiled wearily at me, and I wrapped my arms around his neck, he replied with his own snaking around my torso. We hesitantly pulled apart and wordlessly got into my car.
"Hey, uh, do you mind if I stay over for a bit?" Shane asked timidly as I pulled onto the highway.
"Yeah, absolutely." I replied quickly. After a while the silence, and my curiosity, became too much. "Shane, what happened?" I knew it had to be pretty serious, he's normally very put together, so crying is kind of a big thing. When he didn't answer, I tried again. "Shane?" He cleared his throat before he spoke.
"Lisa and I..." He began but paused to take a deep breath. "We broke up."
"What? Why?"
"Uh, I'm in love with someone else..." He replied in with an unsure shaky voice.
"Woah, do I know her?" I asked feigning excitement.
"Yeah, you know him." He replied quietly, seeming almost bashful.
"Him?" I asked, making sure I heard him correctly.
"Yeah..." Woah, woah. Wow. It could be me! Or I could just be getting my hopes up for something that will never happen. "I can still stay right? Lisa kind of kicked me out and-"
"Yes! Yes, of corse you staying! You may as well just stay the night. Get things sorted out."
"Okay. Thank you."
"So, are you gay? Or bi? This doesn't effect the way I feel about you, I'm just curious." And I was jut curious, I mean he likes a guy, but he was with Lisa, I'm just a bit confused.
"Uh, I don't know. Y-he's the only guy I've been attracted to." Wait. Was he going to say you? Wait. No, you're just insane.
"Do I get to know who this 'mystery man' is?"
"If you would pay attention it would be quite obvious." He replied with a sharp edge to his voice. It was just a simple question, no need to get all snappy. We stayed quiet through rest of the drive, he only speaking once, thanking me for opening the apartment door for him.
He awkwardly stood by the closed door, hands in his pockets, rocking on his heels.
"Well, don't just stand there," I motioned toward the sofa. "Sit." He obliged, sitting on the far end of the sofa; I sat down beside him. He started to rub his hands together like he was nervous. Had my question thrown him off?
"Shane, what I said-in the car- I was just curious. I wasn't trying to put you down or anything, and if it came off like that, I'm-" he cut me off before I could apologise.
"No, no you didn't offend me or anything." He paused finally looking up from his hands, I expected him to look at me, but he only looked around the room. "Is Sawyer here?" He asked, looking back down to his lap. I didn't quite understand his question- does he like Sawyer?
"No, he's filming. He'll be out for a week or so." He nodded. Shane lifted his head up once more, and this time, he looked at me. Our gazes locked. There was fear shining in his blue pools. What could he be afraid of though? Certainly not me.
"In the car," he began slowly. "you asked who it was I broke up with Lisa for." He stated. I shook my head in agreement, and motioned for him to continue. "Do you actually want to know, or were you just being nice?"
"Of corse I want to know, I do care about you, Shane." I stated matter-of-factly, eliciting a smile on Shane's part. He breathed a small laugh, then dropped his head in his hands. "Shane, are you okay?" He rubbed his hands down his face, steepleing them under his chin.
"Yeah, I'm just- I'm-" he sighed. "I'm just trying to decide if I should tell you." He said, starring at the floor, eyes glazed over in thought. With one more breathily sigh, he opened his mouth to speak. "Joey, I-" He paused, laughing a bit. "Joey, I think I'm in love you."
~Meh POV~
Joey looked at Shane, dumbstruck. This is what he wants, of corse, no doubt about that, but now that Shane has actually said it, Joey's frozen. He wants to tell him how much he loves him, he wants to hug him, and kiss him, and never let him go; but he can't get his body to work.
Shane looks at Joey's face, he doesn't see the love behind his paralysed mask, Shane sees distaste, unreciprocated feelings. Which is not the case, but they're both idiots, so.
Shane stands about to walk away, but Joey's hand shoots up, breaking his invisible bounds, and grabs Shane's wrist. Shane looks down, tears slightly distorting his vision. Joey stands, and brings both of his hands up to either side of Shane's face, making their eyes meet.
"Joey, don't. It was stupid for me to-" Shane's sentence was cut short by Joey's lips. Shane was hesitant at first, thinking Joey was pitying him, but the way Joey's hands tangled in his long hair made him think differently. Shane placed his hands on Joey's waist, moving just enough so his hands slipped under his light grey shirt. All to quickly they pulled away, and looked into each others eyes.
"I think I love you too." Joey whispered.
