~Richard’s POV~

 + The next morning +

I blink and groan sleepily. Rubbing my eyes, I sit up and stare at my alarm clock. It read 10:50am.

Damn sun. It’s too early. I yawn as I think about wasting another hour sleeping. The bed shifts and I roll over, confusion swirling through my hazy thoughts. Sarah sighs and inches closer to me. Her head finds my shoulder and her hand holds onto my arm softly. She smiles in her sleep.

I blink again, what the hell is she doing in my bed? Oh god, was I drunk AGAIN? Anexi’s going to kill me. I wasn’t sore; she wasn’t undressed, so I relaxed slightly, sleepiness still washing over me.

    “Don’t…”

My eyes flash back to her face. Her pretty smile vanishes and she clutches my arm tightly. “Don’t hurt me.” she mumbles.

Was it Damian? I wanted to say. Why else would she be frightened of her own shadow?

“Don’t hurt me.” she mumbles again. I stroke her long blonde hair and her smile returns. I carefully detach myself from her soft grip as I climb out of bed and pulled on a pair of jeans. In the corner was a small box that had the rags Sarah had been wearing last night. They were folded neatly. I glance back at Sarah and saw that she wore Anexi’s old faded blue pajamas. I smile and close the door behind me and slowly drift my way into the kitchen. Axel was sitting at the table sipping a red drink when I came in, yawning.

“About time,” Axel smirks, “Did you know it’s almost noon?”

“I value my sleep,” I mutter as I got coffee brewing. I needed caffeine, dammit. “Screw off.”

“No thanks,” Axel says as Anexi walks into the room. She takes one glance at my hair and giggles. “Morning.”

I stick my tongue out at her and brush my hair down from the back. “Anexi?”

   “Yeah?”

“What the hell is Sarah doing in my room?”

She turns around and gives me a serious look, “She is not sleeping on the couch Reesh. You can share your bed with her.”

I pour myself a cup of coffee. “Good. Cause this morning I thought I had gotten drunk last night.”

The lovers laugh. “Old habits die hard, huh Rich?” Axel chuckles.

I make a face at them, “Ha-ha. Very funny.”

“Can you wake Sarah up? I think we can go over the basics of hunting really quick before that meeting,” Anexi pulls on her high-heels.

“Sure,” I set my coffee on the table and shuffle back into my room. Sarah hadn’t moved from my side of the bed. Her shoulders and chest move up and down slightly with her breathing. Coming closer, I became entranced with watching her. She looked so young, carefree, and innocent. Her blonde curls wrapped softly around her shoulders and stopped at her mid-back. The blanket was loose around her thin waist.

I sit down next to her and gently shook her shoulder. “Sarah.” I whisper. “Wake up.” I get no response. “Sarah,” I shake her a little harder. Her eyes shot open and I gasp and stumble back.

Black. No pupils, no irises. Her eyes were completely black as Sarah goes stiff and unresponsive. I backed up against the wall, completely freaked out.

“What the hell,” I whisper. Sarah doesn’t move. She doesn’t appear to breathe. Just those eyes. They blankly stare at the white ceiling. I carefully step forward to Sarah. Nervous, I grab her stiff arm then hiss and drop it, clutching my hand. She was ice-cold; my hand was numb to the extreme. I grab her arm again, trying my hardest to ignore the white-hot pain shooting through my entire arm and roughly shook her. She blinks and those black eyes disappear. Bright bleary blue eyes flutter open and she yawns.

“Morning,” I said calmly as if she didn’t just creeped me out. She moans softly, as if she had been woken up from a deep sleep.

“Time to wake up,” I couldn’t help wondering if she even knew if something was wrong with her.

~Sarah’s POV~

Something shakes me roughly by the arm. I stretch and yawn, feeling stiff.

“Morning,” I hear a voice say softly. I moan to tell him I was awake. I don’t want to get up, I think. I open my eyes. Richard stares at me intently. The first thing I noticed was that he was shirtless, and damn, did he look good. I feel myself blushing at the thought.

“Time to wake up,” he said. I nod and yawn again. He stands up and throws me a red shirt and blue jeans from the closet. Our eyes connect for a moment and he looks like he was about to say something when something buzzes making me jump. He smirks and reaches into his pocket and pulls out a cell phone. He looks at who was calling and growls into the phone, “What?”

He’s quiet for a few minutes. “How am I supposed to know? ...I’m not going to…no…screw him. He’s the older one…if he wasn’t drunk all the time I’d consider it,” he snaps the phone shut.  “Get dressed,” he orders me and stalks out. I obeyed obediently, surprised at his mood from the phone call.

“Sarah? Sarah, let’s go out for breakfast.” Anexi calls. I finish pulling the shirt over my head, “Coming!” I said, although I doubt she heard me. As I walk to the kitchen I hear her hiss, “What happened?”

“I’ll tell you later,” I think Richard said lowly. I tilt my head in confusion. Were they talking about…me?

= Unknown POV =

       “Where is she?”

He is silent. He avoids my steel gaze like the plague. It was very smart of him.

“Where is she?” I repeat slowly. “You agreed to bring her again today. Did you lose her? Huh? Did she somehow manage to break the chains that imprisoned her and walk off? Those very same chains that have to be on her no matter what? Huh? That was the most dangerous, lethal, greatest weapon we have created! So where’d she go, Damian?”

He flinches at the sound of his name. “Were you so drunk last night that you left it out on the street? Anyone could have picked it up!” I smack him clear across the face. “Guess who’s going to suffer with his paycheck? Guess who will be responsible when she finds out what she really is?”

“I know where she is,” Damian mumbles, still looking at the ground. “I can get her back.”

I raise my fist, “Go get it and bring it here…now.

He runs off like the scared little coward he is. I lower my fist and smirk darkly. “She’ll never get away.”
