Harmonys' P.O.V.

We're in a library. It's been a few days since we left that desert village behind.

"*sigh* there aren't anymore books here about the philosophers stone! Just shoot me in the head will ya?" Ed says as I reach up and take out another book.

I flip through the book and see no useful information. I sigh as I put it back, "but before you shoot him could ya shoot me first?"

Al says "I can't believe that Cornellos' stone was a fake." He looks down at us, "now we're out of leads again!"

Ed shuts the book he was reading, "Mustang's gonna scream our ears off."

I slouch, just imagining that gives me a headache.

Al gasps, "guys look!" He bends down and picks up an old brown book.

He holds it up and I see it's an alchemy book, "introduction to alchemy... Haha, takes you back doesn't it?"

I grimace.

Ed says "I guess..." He takes the book and opens it, I look at it as well, the simple transmutation circles do bring back memories.

Years and years ago....

"See? This line goes here!" Ed says as he draws a strange circle on the floor.

I stand next to Winry petting the dog in her arms, "hey! I'm bored!" She complains.

Al looks back at us, "one more second guys"

Ed sits up, "alright we're done! Whatddya think girls?"

I plop down on the ground, cross-legged, "cool!"

"I think that's a lousy present." answers Winry. I look at her. How can she not think that's cool?

Ed laughs, "well that's not the present! It's just an outline for one!"

They get two piles of dust in their hands and pour it into the middle.
They get on their knees on the floor and they each place their hands on the circle on opposite sides. The circle starts glowing yellow.

I lean forward, almost memorized by the light. Winry tenses, but I don't notice. Blue sparks come from the dust and surround it. A sliver of the sand rises up and my eyes widen in amazement.

The sliver moves a little and splits into two heads and looks like it's forming a ghost like face.

I hear a cry.

I snap my head up to see Winry fall to the floor, hands cupping her face. The dog's barking.

I wrap my arms around her shoulders, "are you okay?" I ask in innocence, she just keeps crying.

The boys stop, "Winry!..." says Al. And they both run over to us. Al sits down in front of us while Ed stands. I rub my hand on Winry's back in an attempt to soothe her.

'That was our very first use of alchemy.'

Later...

"They weren't trying to scare you Winry, they went to a lot of trouble." Dad says to her.

I'm sitting next to her, my face sick with worry.

Mom nods "that's right. Edward and Alphonse were just trying to do something special for both of you."

Ed and Al's mom says "I'm sorry about this. It was a misunderstanding."

Granny comes in, "but no mistake of talent."

She walks over to us, "hah, you know I found even the most gifted of folks give up before they do anything of real merit."

She holds up two dolls, "your boys have one heck of a start! Look at this work!"
