12. Steel and Granite Reminders

I've had the same dream for three nights now,

I wake up with tears in my eyes,

A face is lying next to me,

Gentle and silent as the night.

In a deep slumber a voice calls,

Take my hand and I will keep you safe,

You'll find no harm within the safety of my arms

Or the barrier of the love I give.

I have a fear as real and as clear

As the pillow I lay my head upon,

That one of these nights I will wake,

The tears will be gone and there will be

No voice to comfort me in the dark.

Every night I pray to God,

That when I wake a voice will be there,

A touch will be moments away,

To soothe and comfort me in my pain.

That I may reach out one morning,

And that voice, those whispers in the air,

That feathered touch may one day be,

A steel and granite force to wipe away my tears.
