Growing up was great in my town in Texas. I had a great life. Parents who loved me and cherished me. Loving relatives that come over for Thanksgiving or a party.
We weren't poor but we weren't rich either. I had no troubles in life. I was a normal kid. I went to the same school with other kids. Played the same games, ate the same food.
I had friends. I was among the popular ones. The cool ones who were smart and wore clean clothes and were loved by the teachers. Perfect!.
My Dad owns a brewery. My mum has her own clothing line. So I can proudly say my clothes are designer quality. I could show her a picture of a dress I wanted and she could sew it perfectly. She is also a great cook.
I just graduated from high school and I got a scholarship to study Biochemistry in Hampton university. Its dorms were perfect. They had a big library and laboratory. I couldn't wait to leave but I also didn't want to go. My parents would be all alone.
Today, as I stepped crossed the gates of the university I stood to inhale the air and brace myself for what I was about to face. I came alone. I didn't want those hugs or crying moments with my parents and embarrass myself on the first day just like in the movies.
Well, needless to say that compared to the brochure the rooms were rather small and the beds rather too large for the room but there was enough space though.
I began to arrange my stuff and the door opened to reveal my roommate.
Oh! She was beautiful and had long brown hair. Her porters brought in her boxes. She smelt rich and acted like it.
"Ugh! The rooms are just too small. Bit its okay anyways." She said instructing the porters to go away with a wave of her hand.
After I had finished taking in her presence I stepped in front of her and brought out my hand.
"Rosie. That's my name" I said with a big smile. She returned it too and shook my hand.
"Stacy. That's mine"
"Don't you just love college?" I asked
"Yes. College is for partying and clubbing and having fun"
"Oh, I don't mean that aspect of school. I meant the studying part"
She bent her head towards me and gave me a weird look
"Your not a nerd are you? Cause then I'll have to change rooms" she brought out an hour glass shaped container and a lighter. "Loosen up. You're away from parents, responsibility, duties and all other boring parenting stuff" she lit the end of the container and sucked in air from it. The smoke came out of her nose in large fumes. It filled the room.
"What is that!" I asked,coughing.
"This?" She said waving it in the air "Its pot. Haven't you ever tried it?"
I said no and she shook her head and took another drag.
"Your from the country aren't you?"
"Texas"
"Typical" she shoved the container in my hand "Try it!"
"No I'd rather not" I pushed it back.
"Mind you, you are going to face more than this out there. This is like the baby compared to the others." she took it from me and continued to inhale it.
"Isn't that bad for your system?"
"The more the reason"
She opened one of her very large boxes and took out some clothes from it.
"There's a frat house nearby and they are having a welcome party. Wanna come?" She removed her shirt to reveal a very large tattoo that said "Will" on her right shoulder.
"No, I'm still unpacking" I didn't want to go to any party with this girl. She was bad influence. I should change rooms or maybe report her.
"Fine then, you will be missing out on a lot of good stuff"
"Yeah I won't be missing out on my studies at least. I had a time table to construct by the way" I took out my manual and sat by the study.
She laughed and shook her head "Nerd"
"Is that your boyfriend. Will?" I pointed to her tattoo.
"Oh" she looked at it. "Yeah, we broke up not long ago because he couldn't handle long distance"
"I'm sorry"
"Why?" She said pulled off her bra to reveal her perky boobs. "We broke up. I'm over it. There are other fish in the sea babe".
" Um... Okay"
"I'm pretty sure I'll reel in three or so at the party"
I rose my eyebrows and nodded my head and turned my back to her to finish unpacking.
My first day at college and nothing is going as I pictured. Guess my perfect life won't be so perfect after all.
