And The World Came Crumbling Down

"Dad can you please tell mom to turn the music down I have an English paper due on Wednesday and the fact that Rick James thinks some girl is a Super Freak isn't helping me."

"Leila your mom's just trying to keep her groove on, stop pestering her", my dad exclaimed, while watching mom try to stiffer her laughter. I could't help but burst out laughing after that bogus statement. If anything it looked more like mom was having a spasm attack than actually trying to "get her groove on". My mom, dad, and I were on our way to the  store to pick up some groceries from our local supermarket. We lived in a small town in New York, just 45 minutes away from the city. We liked to go to a supermarket out of our town which is a little over 25 minutes away so I had decided to tag along with them so I would actually do my work instead of just sleeping in the house all day like I would normally do on a Saturday night.

On our way back home mom was engaged with dad in what seemed like a pretty boring conversation. Of course this talk was about politics and how the election was just around the corner. I always admired how good my parents' relationship was and how they were so good together. Not to mention how they were the best parents anyone could ever ask for. I continued to work on my paper because even though it was due on Wednesday, I sure as hell wasn't going to miss an opportunity to get extra credit since my teacher said that if we handed it in on Monday, he would add five extra points to our overall homework average. And Lord knows I-

"Aaaaaahh", shrieked my mother from the passenger seat. As I looked up expecting to see a bug on the window, I was faced with something far worse. It all happened so fast I thought I was dreaming. It happened just as fast as she screamed out inn terror, just as fast as we pulled out our driveway to go to the store, just as fast as I took the opportunity to earn some extra credit, and just as fast as I looked up to see the world come crumbling down. And it landed right on me.
