Dad tried to swerve, but he was too late. It was too late. I had looked up a second after mom belted out that scream, and one look changed it all. Mom ended up through the front glass of the car and dad looked like he was drowning in the airbag that had popped out as soon as our car slammed into the enormous eighteen-wheel truck. "Mom", I called out, but she didn't answer. "Dad" I said after my failed attempt to get mom's attention for the past 30 seconds. He didn't respond either. By this point I was hyperventilating and wailing for my parents to just wake up. Why didn't they respond." For God's sake listen to me", I screamed but still got no answer. I didn't want to accept the reality, I couldn't accept what the voices in my head told me was really happening to them. So instead I just lay there with my English paper at my feet. I lay there sobbing and aching all over. My gosh my body really hurt.
Five minutes and twenty seven seconds later I heard the wailing sound of a siren. Next think I knew my door was being opened and so was my parents. I was carried into an ambulance from a stretcher that was being rushed over to me as soon the ambulance made a stop. From the corner of my eye I saw two people putting their index and middle finger on my mom and dad's neck. And when those people shook their head no to the police officers who had arrived at the scene along with the ambulance, I knew exactly what happened. But by this moment I was already being frantically driven away from the scene. The whole ride to the hospital went by in a daze. I didn't even realize my head was bleeding and parts of my body that have scratches on them were starting to swell up.
I couldn't believe that in a matter of 30 seconds my life was turned upside down. And I couldn't believe that the downfall happened to the two people I love most in this world as a result. What was I going to do now. What was going to happen to me. Maybe if I had kept my head down, one look couldn't have changed it all.
