"Hey, Macy, wait up!"
The content smile which had started making its way on my face slipped as fast as lightening when I realized that the voice was not a girl's voice - or Angelina's, as I'd expected it would be; but a guy's.
I frowned, then turned around to come face to face with a handsome brunet wearing a black plaid shirt, walking towards me with a smile. It was Liam, a senior in our school.
"Hey, Liam," I responded, clasping my hands behind my back and shifting a bit to my left to see whether Angelina was looking anywhere in my direction. Much to my disappointment, I couldn't spot her among the people playing party games with fruit punches as alcohol. "What are you doing here?"
"I just wondered why you weren't playing with us." Liam pointed his thumb backwards.
"I just didn't-"
"She was with me." Angelina's voice cut off my sentence and my heart swelled when she emerged from behind Liam and stood next to me, giving him a dismissive smile.
"But you were playing with us," Liam said, his voice calm and collected, but eyes narrowed and focused on busting Angelina's lie.
"So you missed me back there? Is that why you're here?" Angelina said in a sweet voice, an angry vein popping on her forehead, and I couldn't help but wonder why the two of them were being so rude to each other.
Liam didn't say anything for a moment, but he did look angry. His brown hair was messy because of the wind; good thing I had tied mine. Stuffing his hands in the pocket of his jeans with a forced smile on his face, he turned to me and said, "Would you like something to drink?"
"They don't have alcohol here," Angelina scoffed, crossing her arms against her chest, a smirk on her face, and then looked lividly at the tides rising up and splashing down a little distance further, spraying water everywhere.
"I never said, would you like some alcohol," Liam snapped at her, and the curiosity in me grew more, wanting to know as to why they were quarrelling and getting on each others' nerves. It was ruining the peace I had been looking for, when I left the loud people behind and came here.
"Fine," I interrupted, catching their attention. "I'd like a drink."
Liam grinned, and something flashed in his eyes... it seemed wrong. His grin wasn't genuine; there was something sly in his smile, and I didn't like it.
