I couldn't stop laughing to every single thing Angelina said to me; even she was entertained when I giggled at something which wasn't remotely funny.
"You're really funny," I giggled again, wiping away the tears which had rolled down my cheeks.
"Not really," Angelina chuckled, bumping her shoulders with mine, "but you're cute when you laugh. Keep laughing, always."
I nodded, a shy smile creeping on my face. Angelina called me cute.
I knew it shouldn't have mattered that much; me and my best friend had given each other much inappropriate compliments than 'cute', but the way Angelina said it, it made me feel really special, as though that compliment was made for me. And I felt a little jealous at the thought of her saying that to someone else.
"Thank you," I almost whispered, the laughter in me dying down instantly, as we looked at each other intensely.
Her eyes were a beautiful shade of blue, and a strand of her dirty blond hair kept falling repeatedly on her forehead, making her continuously flip her hair. I smiled a little at her and brought my hand forward to push her hair back.
But my hand couldn't find a way to take itself off of her rosy cheeks.
The temperature seemed to rise a few degrees as Angelina shifted to face me fully, licking her lips, glancing down at my own.
"Would it..." Angelina paused, "would it be weird for you if I kissed you right now?"
Even though she asked for my permission, she leaned in anyways, and my heart skipped a bit. My breaths came out faster from excitement, and I whispered, "No."
"Good-" she started, but I cut her off by pressing my lips against hers for two seconds. Then I moved away shyly.
"Wow," she smiled, her hands travelling down my arms as she entwined our fingers. She was really bold. "Can we, like, try that again?"
But I wasn't listening to her.
A large crab was quickly making its way towards us; my eyes widened and I jumped to my feet, pulling Angelina with me. My throat dry, I pointed at the crab with wild gestures; it was now walking on the path where we had been seated earlier.
"What? What happened Macy?" Angelina asked, bewildered.
"It's that large crab!" I exclaimed incredulously.
"Where?" came her reply, and it aggravated me that she couldn't see it. How could she not see it? It was almost the size of a fisted palm.
My chest started heaving as I stared at it, but when I blinked, the crab was gone. I looked at Angelina, and I was almost sure she thought I was going mad.
"Are you feeling okay, Mace? You don't look so good..." she trailed off, a worried look on her face.
"Yeah, I-I..." I trailed off, feeling bile rise in my throat. I took a few deep breaths to calm myself down, but I was interrupted by Liam's voice.
"Hey, Macy, something has happened to your best friend, Claudia, in the parking lot. You'd better come quick."
