As Liam started walking away, I stared at his retreating figure, trying to figure out whether his body language gave any indication that he was upto something mischievous.
But there was none.
He just ruffled his hair a couple of times, stuffed his hands in the pocket of his jeans and glanced to his left, at the sea, occasionally. Finally he reached to where his friends had been sitting.
They were still playing the idiotic game.
"Are you going to stare at him the whole evening?" Angelina's voice snapped me out of my reverie, and I turned around to smile at her.
"No."
Angelina smiled back, her dimples showing, and she motioned me to sit down next to her, on the sand. I followed her lead, stretching my legs in front of me.
"How beautiful is the sky," she whispered, making me to look at her, my heart thudding in my chest and my lips twitching up when I saw how fascinated she really was. I looked up too.
The sky above us was now a mixed shade of orange, grey and black. The sun was about to set, bestowing its last rays upon us; the sound of the tides gave me a shiver of pleasure.
A few moments passed when none of us said anything, but just as I was about to start a conversation, Angelina rolled her eyes at something behind me, and said, "Oh God, here he comes."
Perplexed, I said, "Who? Liam?"
She didn't reply; and sure enough, when I followed Angelina's gaze, it turned out to be him with two drinks in his hands. As he came nearer, his grin widened, and I couldn't help but smile back.
"This one for the pretty lady," he announced as he handed me something which I assumed was punch, because that's what they were serving here.
He handed the other drink to Angelina, his hand lingering a little longer on her hand than I liked, and gave her a small wink. My fingers twitched, longing to pour my drink all over him and punching him where it hurt. Then, he sat cross-legged next to me, snatching the drink from Angelina, and she gasped in protest.
"What the fuck?"
"The drink wasn't for you, you were just holding it for me," Liam smirked rudely, taking a noisy sip from it.
Her face painted in disbelief, Angelina got up from her seat and marched up to him, snatching his drink and pouring half of it near his legs; it was close enough to make him squeal and squiggle in his seat on the sand, but only a few drops of the drink actually made the edge of his jeans wet.
I giggled, and Angelina winked at me lazily, making me blush a little.
"Are you insane?" Liam shouted, getting up in a flash and stumbled backwards, annoyed.
"Yes. Now go! Leave," she laughed, and he really did leave.
Just when I was about to take another sip of my drink, something stopped me.
I hadn't really known Liam well. I had just seen him a few times in school, and all we had done was talked once and smiled whenever we happened to see each other in hallways or during lunch. Could I really trust him over a drink?
"He's gone," said Angelina quietly. "Are you planning on drinking that anytime soon?"
I looked at her, my mind racing.
"I'm just thinking...""Come on, it doesn't have alcohol in it," she teased, placing her hand over mine, and I felt overwhelmed by her bold advances. "And even if it does have alcohol, it's not really a big deal. I mean, we've all had some at parties, right?"
Not me, Angelina, I thought.
I had never consumed alcohol ever in my life, and I know it'll be that way forever. It caused someone to lose control over themselves and their vehicle, and that lost me my mother.
"Right," I said nervously, not wanting to say anything that could potentially ruin the moment, and downed the drink in a few big gulps.
That was probably one of my most horrible decisions...
