Bran's POV

The clock read 7 am. I had snoozed my alarm. Damn! I was going to be late on the first day of my senior year.I showered and got ready within 5 minutes. I grabbed an apple on my way out. I could hear mom shouting, "Breakfast, Bran."

"Later." I called out.

I drove as fast as I could. I parked my car in the nearest available spot and ran. As I entered the main hall I collided hard into somebody.

"I am sorry." A surprisingly sweet female voice said.

"Damn! You jerk. Are you blind?" I exclaimed. I hadn't seen the girl around but then I wasn't the type to remember everybody. Her braided hair were a mess and she hadn't applied any make up.

She was taken aback. "What? I take my apologies back. And you're equally at fault."

I leaned closer. "I don't give a damn, pigtail." And I walked off, leaving her agaped.

I quickly shoved my things in the locker and went towards my English class.

Ms. Collins, head of the administration, caught me on the way. "Brandon, late again? On the very first day! I am not surprised."

I was thinking about excuses but nothing comes up when you're in a situation like this.

I saw the pigtail girl standing behind Ms. Collins. "Well, this is Anna and she is new this year. Since nobody else is around you have to show her around. She has english with Mr. Richards. Kindly show her the way. "

"No no no. I can't. I am already late Ms. C."

She sighed. "Brandon, I know you have english with Mr. Richards too. Another no and I am giving you a week's detention."

I groaned. You simply don't win an argument with Ms.C. "Very well. Come. "

I walked ahead and once in a while turned back to see if she was following. Thank god she was quiet.
Damn! This girl. I can't enter the class with her. It'll ruin my reputation and I'll never hear the end of it. Not that she wasn't pretty but she was naïve. She looked good and good wasn't for me.

After reaching the classroom, I knocked on the door. I told Mr. R that I was late because I had to help the new girl. Surprisingly, he let me enter without further interrogation and pigtail didn't say anything.
Alex, my best friend since kindergarten, had saved me a place.

I sat down as Mr.R announced, "Class, this is Anna Rubinstein. She is new here and I hope you'll help her out." He was looking for an empty place for her. He told her to sit next to Sophie and said, "Sophie, I expect you to help Anna and show her around."

Damn! Sophie, Alex and I had been friends since kindergarten. Pigtail wasn't going to stick around. But knowing Sophie, she would probably help her.

"This year we will be working mainly on poetry. You'll be assigned partners in a few weeks and you'll work with them the entire year in every project. I want you all to feel the poems as if they were living beings."

Mr.R continued the lecture about poems. Damn! I didn't know a single thing about poetry. Hopefully my partner will adore it because if anything I had to keep up my grades for the scholarship.

"Dude" Al was whispering. "Who's the new girl?"

"I don't know. Some jerk. I collided with her in the main hall and later Ms.C told me to show her around." I whispered back.

"Well looks like she's gonna stick around. You know how Sophie is, she won't leave her alone."

I sighed when the bell rang. Whoa! Only a class was over and it already felt like a lifetime.

Soph and I had history now. Al had economics.

"Hey Anna! What do you have now?" I heard Soph asking.

"History." Anna replied.

Soph was smiling. "Bran and I have history too. Come let's go."

We said our "see ya laters" to Al and went towards the history class. Soph was happily babbling.

Soph was a great friend and although I didn't like pigtails much but Soph could do with a girlfriend. She hardly had girlfriends. Al and I will always be there for her but she needed someone to speak about all the "girl stuff".

I sat behind them and counted minutes until the lunch time as I braced myself for another boring lecture.
