You are my best friend as well as my lover, and I do not know which side of you I enjoy the most. I treasure each side, just as I have treasured our life together.

Jane's POV

I always feel lonely after Bran leaves. I have always valued the power of silence. But now everything is so quiet, so void, so deprived of happiness. Oh Luke!My Luke!

I clutch a photograph of my 18-year-old Luke. Once again I am lost in the past.

It was a few weeks after our first date. By that time we were completely lovestruck. Stealing glances between classes and holding hands had become a routine. We spent a lot of our timeme together.

I remember that day very vividly. Well, it wasn't a good day. I had a row with my parents early in the morning, I got late for school, got scoldings in every class, you know that kind of day. So basically, all I wanted to do was go home and sleep.

But Luke had other plans. After school, we went to the clearing near the forest. We called the place 'our escape'. We would often come here and talk. This clearing was surrounded by tall trees and there was a fresh water stream running near by. We sat together with out feet dipped in the stream. I rested my head on Luke's shoulder. We talked but most of the time we were silent. The atmosphere was beautiful or maybe we had created it. None of us broke the silence. We understood each other without words, without explanation. It was moments like this when I knew I couldn't live without him. In a very short span of time he had become my support system, my best friend and the person with whom I wanted to spend the rest of my life.

I was thinking about how much I love him when he whispered as if afraid of breaking the trance we were both in, "I love you, Jane."

I smiled and snuggled close to him. "I know." I whispered back.

Later, as I lay in bed I was thinking about Luke. Life seemed so beautiful when we were together. I felt like spending every second of my life with him. I turned around smiling and lo! there lay luke right beside me. Oh! Great! So now I had started imagining him too.

"Hey!" He smiled.

I ruffled his hair. Ruffled?
"Oh my god! Jesus! Luke? What are you doing here? It is so late. What if someone sees you? Go."

"Calm down, lady. We are going somewhere." He said.

"We? No. You are going home." I exclaimed.

He put a finger on my lips. "Shh! Trust me."

We climbed down my window. He pointed to a truck and said, "There's our ride for tonight."

I laughed. "Aye aye captain." I faked a salute. With him, life was beautifully unexpected.

He parked on the open area of the beach. "Here we are."

He continued, "You know, I've heard that the beach becomes magical in the night. The sand looks like gold. The water looks like a huge mirage of shooting stars. So, I brought you here."

I kissed him on the cheek. "Let's go."

We jumped in the water like little kids splashing water in the rain. The water reflected the myriad stars. The cool breeze was gently embracing us into its infinity. We swam and then walked on the sand hand in hand.

"Come." Luke whispered and he took me to the back side of the truck. There was a bed on the floor of the truck. We lay there and looked up at the stars.

"It is so beautiful." I said looking up at the stars.

"Very beautiful." He whispered back in a husky voice.

I turned towards him, only to find him staring at me. I went scarlet in the cheeks. "Luke! I am talking about the sky."

He leaned in and kissed me gently on the lip. My very first kiss! It was one of those times when words fail to describe the beauty of the moment. But our nose or teeth, nothing got in the middle. It was calm like it was meant to be. There were not only butterflies in my stomach but fireflies were dancing everywhere. A soft musical sound was arising from the ocean. It was beautiful.

"Well, I know someone who is more beautiful than the night sky." He said.

I laughed. "I am hungry."

"Oh Jane. You totally ruined the moment." He sighed dramatically.

"You brought me here at midnight without food." I rolled my eyes dramatically.

He laughed and took out a packet of chocolates out of nowhere. "I couldn't do that to you." He smiled genuinely.

I hungrily grabbed a piece and popped it in my mouth. "Mmmm heaven." I exclaimed.

Luke snatched another piece. We lay there-laughing, eating and staring at the beautiful stars. And I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with this idiotic person who made me laugh like a lunatic.
