Bran's POV
I spent the night at Granny's. This place was full of memories. Every picture hung on the wall told a different story. Every corner contained a special memory. How could Granny live here alone? She is almost 85. I still find it difficult to believe that Gran's really gone even though it has been 5 years. Sometimes I wonder what it is like to live with only memories. Yet she is always cheerful.
I made my way downstairs. I could smell something delicious. I entered the kitchen and kissed granny on the cheek.
"Morning, sweetheart" I whispered.
"Good morning, my dear." She said as she put a plate of pancakes in front of me.
"Hmmmm. They are so tasty." I moaned, taking a bite. "Looks like gran left his cooking skills here. You hardly cooked earlier."
She laughed. "Oh. Your gran never let me cook. I always had a thing for cooking."
I rolled my eyes."Yes you sure did.I have heard a million stories about your cooking disasters from gran and mom. Gran used to say you almost burned the house once and then finally you gave up cooking."
She faked innocence. "You believe in those lies? Well, they understated me." She wiped her fake tears.
I laughed. She was such a sweetheart.
"Soph had called earlier. She said you weren't answering your phone." Granny said.
Damn! "Damn! I must have put off the ringer."
I checked my phone. There were several texts and calls from Soph. I called her back.
"Hey Soph! I am sorry. I had put off the ringer."
"Hey Bran. It's okay. I need a favor."
"Yeah?"
"Something turned up. Can you please pick up Anna?"
"For The Knights? What time?"
"Yeah. Around 6:30."
"Okay. See ya then."
I asked Granny for directions. I went to pick up Anna at 6:30. Only then did I realize that I didn't have Anna's number and I would've have to enter her house to call her. Damn! What if her parents open the door? How am I supposed to explain things? When I was mentally fighting with myself, I saw Anna knocking on my car's window.
"Open up." She said smiling.
I opened the door. "Soph already told me." She said adjusting herself.
"Oh. So, are you ready to visit the most happening place of this town?" I asked.
She laughed. "I am wayyyyy toooo excited. Tell me about this place."
I grinned at her y's. "This place is called The Knights. People say they can't remember the town without it. It is very old. The Mitchell's have been running it from father to son."
"Oh. What's the place like?" She asked."It has a cafe, bar, sports area and disco. It has four different. entrances." I answered.
She nodded. We were silent for a while. "So, since when have you been playing football?" She asked.
"Since I was four. Gran and dad used to play golf on sundays and I always tagged along. Then later we used to play football. It was a kind of routine." I said as my mind flooded with myriad memories.
"You talk about football with so much passion. No wonder so many memories are attached with it." She said.
"We have a match coming up soon. You should come."
"Oh. That's wonderful. It'll be fun."
"How was life in the south?"
"Well, to sum it up in one word-it was hot. There was always something to do. Lots of beaches."
I laughed. "How was it like growing up in such a 'hot' place?"
"We always spent our sundays on beaches. Mum and dad cooked for us, my brother and I. You know, kinda family picnic. There were many hangout places. Summer jobs." She said dreamily. She must have really enjoyed her life.
"Your turn." She added."Well, you've already met granny. Since I am the only child, I've been pampered a lot. It was like growing up with four parents. I was very close to gran. So, it was hard when he...er...left us. He and granny were so loving and well sarcastic."
She nodded. "I am sorry."
"Don't be. It's okay."
She sighed. I was sure she was going to say something emotional like most of the people but instead she said, "I know but you have to say it. I've watched it in movies and read about it in books. It is like an inevitable universal law." She winked.
I burst out laughing. It wasn't the words that made me laugh. It was the way she said it with so much innocence. "Did the nerd just crack a joke? Is it real or is it happening inside my head?" I feigned surprise.
"Of course it is happening inside your head but why on earth should that mean it is not real?" She smirked.
I laughed. "Did you just quote Dumbledore from Harry potter and the deathly hallows?"
She shrugged her shoulders.
"I should've known." I called back. "Nerd stuff."
"I am not a nerd!" She exclaimed. "Which is your favorite Harry Potter book?"
"Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban. Yours?" I asked.
"Harry potter and the goblet of fire." She replied. "Do you read a lot?"
"I read at times. I take it you read a lot?
"Yes. Another escape." She replied.
"We are almost there. We are going to the cafe first. You are going to taste the best coffee ever." I said after some time.
We were almost there. Conversation flowed easily childhood stories, interests. We laughed, we talked.
We reached soon and I parked in my usual spot. Soph and Al were already there."We thought you had lost your way and were about to call help." Al sighed dramatically.
We laughed and just like thst I knew we were going to have a great time.
