Anna's POV
The cafeteria was very crowded. The queue was long but the service was fast. Sophie ordered burger along with fries and I ordered the same.
Thank god, Mr. Richards had asked her to help me out otherwise I would have been lost. Sophie was a bit taller than me with broad shoulders and blonde hair. She had a warm and welcoming smile. She was very lively. She talked like we were old friends who had met after a long time.
We sat down in a table situated at the far end of the cafeteria."This is where we always sit", she said. I assumed that by 'we' she meant she, Alex and that jerk Bran. How could someone as sweet as Sophie be friends with a jerk like Brandon?
She had asked me about my entry with Bran and I had narrated her the morning incident. She had laughed and said,"Bran can be a jerk sometimes but he is good at heart."Alex and Brandon joined us soon.
"Hey girls", Alex greeted. "How were the classes?"We smiled."Maths was fun. History was boring. The teacher is a lunatic." Sophie replied. "And I know you guys have already met her but this is Anna and she is new here." Then, "And Anna, they are Al and Bran. We have been friends since forever."
Al smiled and Bran just nodded.
"Football practice after school, I guess?, Soph said.
"Practice starts from tomorrow. The coach is so excited this year. He is sure we are going to win against Wimbledon High. I really hope we win, it's our last year.", Bran replied.
His eyes gleamed with passion as he spoke about football. When someone speaks so passionately about something you want them to go on forever even if you don't understand a thing about it. You want to witness their smile, see their fists clenched as they curse out loud and see their eyes turn red with anger.
"Looks like we won't be seeing much of Bran this year. He is never going to leave the field." Soph teased.
We laughed.
"So Anna, where do you come from?" Al asked.
"The south." I replied. "Born and brought up. We recently shifted here due to dad's work."
"I thought so. You have the southern accent and the tan too."Al said.
"Oh! You must love beaches then." Soph replied. "It's a pity, the nearest beach is atleast two hours away."
"I loved spending time on the beach. There is so much to learn from the sea. Summers are the best part. So many tourists and a lot of surfing. I worked part time on the surfboard store."
"That's wonderful." Al said. "We go to the beach sometimes. It has been long, we should go soon, right Bran?"
"Sure.", Bran said curtly.
"We should. You should see Al on a beach. He is so conscious and he applies more suntan cream than girls. And at the end he complaints that he is sunburnt." Soph teased.
Bran laughed.
Al playfully punched her. "Oh shut up Soph." She punched him back. Their eyes shone with love as they teased each other. They looked at each other as if they were the brightest thing in the room. Soph had a special kind of smile that she smiled only when she was with him. I could already sense love. Is it possible that they had not realised it yet?
Bran had been quiet all along. We had most of the classes together. I can't believe I was scared about starting a new. Soph and Al seem genuinely nice and well about Bran? He must have something in him if he is friends with such genuine people.
When school was over, Soph asked me if I wanted a ride but I told her it was only a short walk. I walked home alone with a huge smile on my lips, humming my favourite song because it had been a good day.
