I arrive to a beautiful mansion where Geoffrey is displaying his artwork. I get there and see him surrounded by beautiful women. I smile to myself and shake my head. I begin to walk around looking at his paintings. They are absolutely stunning. I stop in front of one that catches my eye. It's a painting of a woman who is in a field raising her hands up to the sky as the sun shines down on her. His use of color is beautiful.
"Is this the mystery woman?" I turn around to face Lili. I smile at her and hug her. She holds my hand and looks at me.
"How am I a mystery?" she shruggs her shoulders. She leans her head to one side.
"You just are." We loop our arms and begin to walk. I notice all the women here. They all must be "friends" of his. I smile to myself. I grab a glass of champage from a waiter.
"His artwork is magnificient isn't it?" I look at her and smile and nod my head.
"Everything I know I learned from him. He's a great teacher and friend. I love how he teaches and applies life to his paintings. I keep telling him he needs to write a book. He has so many great words to say and he can never capture them all in a painting." I laugh and look at her. She always has something great to say about. She looks at me and unloops our arms and looks down at her drink and looks up.
"I know what you're thinking. Why do I speak so great of him?" I look at her and kind of shrugg and smile. I've been wondering that for a while.
"Even though we haven't been married for six years he still means a great deal to me. Like I said he's a great friend and lover, but he also moves like the wind. He doesn't like to be tied down." My eyes open wide in shock. What the fuck he was married once already?!?! She smiles and looks at me.
"How old are you Lili?" she looks around for a minute then stares back at me.
"Geoffrey and I are both twenty-eight we got married when we were nineteen and then divorced when we were twenty-two." I nodded my head and smiled. We looped our arms again and began walking again. Why do I even get shocked when I hear about Geoffrey? I mean the man will always be full of surprises. She brings us over to a table full of men.
"Everyone I would like you all to meet Nicole. She will definitely be a new addition to our festivities. I shake all their hands. What's beautiful about all these artists and political cats is they all come from different places. They all have different views. They all still remain to stay friends.
I sat next to man named Juan. Not an artist just political photographer who is a part of a lot of rallies. His grandparents was apart of the civil rights movement here in America and did a lot of work with Caesar Chavez before coming here to America. Juan was born to two Mexican parents in New York. He's very outspoken that's for sure and he's a democrat.
"Why the hell is Romney running for presidency. Everyone knows Obama is going to be re elected this year." I laugh at Juan. He's not lying that's for sure. I sip on my champagne and watch as this conversation unfolds.
"I don't think so," a man named Alexander says. His parents are from Italy and he was born in New Jersey.
"I think Romney has a chance" everyone at the table stares at him and wait for this explanation.
"I actaully love him to be honest. He has extremely good points." Alexander rolls his eyes and crosses hands as he smokes on his cigar.
"The only reason people want Obama is because he's black. If he wasn't he'd just be another democrat." I put my fingers to my temple and stare at him.
"No because he actually has valid points and is trying to get America great again." Juan says and we all begin to laugh. I drink some more of my champagne.
"Hey! Don't act like Romney doesn't!" Alex yells. Juan and Alex go back and forth and I look at this they begin to stand up.
"HEY HEY HEY!" They all look at me and slowly sit back down.
"Now Alex I'm sorry to say this, but the statement you made WAS completely idiotic considering the fact that almost every president we had has had a second term. Me personally I don't give a fuck who you vote for because personally I'm a very liberal person and don't care much for politics, but at the end of the day I must say...." they look at me and I smirk. I sip on my champagne.
"I'm voting for Obama." I say quickly and I hear Alex slap his hand on the table and say "awn" and everyone else celebrate. I feel Juan squeeze my shoulders a little bit.
"See... See... She has a head on her shoulders." Juan says and I drink the rest of my champagne.
"She really does." We all look up and look at Geoffrey. Juan gets up and begins to clap and everyone joins in on the applause.
"Geoffrey your artwork is beautiful and tells the stories of hardworkers and people making a way just to survive. You are the storyteller of struggle and life." Juan goes up to him and hugs him and kisses him on the cheek. I smile and join on the rest of the applause. Geoffrey looks at me his eyes not once leaving mine. I do a head nod towards him and he does the samething back.
"Well ladies and gentlemen if you can the join the rest of the guest out there so I can give my speech that would great." everyone laughs and begin to make their way to the other guest I stand next to Alex and Lili.
"Watch him woo the crowd." Lili whispers to me. I look at her and Geoffrey taps the glass and gains everyone attention.
"I would like to thank everyone for coming out here. Some of you have seen me create these paintings. Some of you have given me stories to create these paintings," I look around and see everyone's eyes on him in amazement. They are hypnotized by his words.
"I didn't truly create these paintings.... Not really. You all created these paintings. Your parents and your grandparents and your great-grandparents created these paintings. Their struggle, their life, their blood, sweat, and tears created these paintings. They were the creators of these creations I did for you, so I thank you and the earth that may be caressing your grandparents and great grandparents now or even your parents. I thank America for reminding us of the blood, sweat, tears that were spilled on this soil to create the world we live in today. I thank your beautiful hearts for always opening them up to me. Thank you all. I love you and goodnight." everyone applauds him. I think of Juan and what he said "storyteller of struggle and life." I must say that statement is completely true and has been proven to me today. All the women surround him. He hugs and kisses them. He walks to me and I clap and smile.
"I must say... You see truth and that sir is very hard to find." he holds my hands and kisses them.
"Thank you for being here." I smile and hug him.
"Of course. I wouldn't have missed it."
