Hermione-"Mione please get up!" Ginny repeats for the hundredth time. I just continue looking at the ceiling, trying I to reach a state of numbness. So many people died, Tonks, Lupin, Dumbledore, Snape, Colin, Lavender, Fred. I still can't believe he's gone, not my Fred. I keep waiting for him to burst in the room, pulling prank after prank to cheer us up. Waiting for him to come in and hold me close, telling me everything is going to be okay, the way he used to. I feel a hot tear run down my face, followed be several others. I burry my face in my pillow, hiding my sobs. Fred's name escapes my lips a couple times and that just makes me cry harder.
"Mione, I'm coming back in an hour. You're gonna get up and eat something then okay?" Ginny's stern voice reaches me through my sobs. I manage to sit up and nod my head yes at her, tears still running down my face. She stands up and hands me a new box of tissues, "I'll be back." I turn my head away from her and look out the window. I stay sitting up until I hear Ginny's footsteps go out the door. After I'm sure she's gone, I curl up into a ball and try to focus on happy memories.
Ron and Lavender were snogging each other's faces off again! Merlin, it's like those two are connected at the mouth whenever I'm around! I can't even study in peace! I get up glaring at them, "Why don't you two get a room? Not everybody wants to see you snogging 24/7!" I say sarcastically. Ron just looks confused, "Mione-" He doesn't get to finish his sentence, because I'm already out the door, tears are threatening to fall and I refuse to let him see me hurt over a silly little crush.
I turn the corner, tears blurring my vision, and run right into someone. I fell down earning quite a few bruises. When I looked up to see who I had ran into, I saw none other than Fred Weasley. Or I thought it was George then. I could never tell the difference. he was already up and was holding one hand out to help me up, in the other was the textbook I had been carrying. I faked a smile and took his hand, hoping it was to dark for him to see my "cry face."
"Hey Hermio- What's wrong?" I sighed, I didn't want to tell him why I was crying, it was stupid. "It's nothing, don't worry about it." He didn't believe me but he went with it anyway. Instead he just smiled, "Do you wanna do something fun?" I hesitated, after all it was after curfew... "I don't know..." He took my hand leading away from the common rooms, "You hesitated, in my books that's a yes!"
An owl flies in the window, pulling me out of the memory. It was a small, brown owl and it had a letter for myself and one for Ginny. I almost smiled when I saw the Hogwarts seal on the back. I tossed Ginny's on her dresser and opened my own,
Hermione Granger,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted into Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. Due to the devastating events of last year each student will be repeating his or her previous year if they pleased. We hope to see you soon! There was another handwritten letter scrawled on the back of my acceptance letter.
Hermione dear, I am pleased to inform you that you have been chosen as the head girl in the new school year, please write back soon telling us if you accept!
~ Minerva McgonagallI tossed the letter aside and faceplanted into my pillow again. I'll write back explaining why the responsibility of head girl along with the energy I'll have to dedicate to keeping my cool and fighting flashbacks from war would be too much to handle later. My stomach lets out an angry growl and I am reminded again that I haven't eaten since the day before yesterday. I groan and roll out of my bed.
I'm just gonna go down stairs grab some food and then I might go out for some fresh air, I need to go get my supplies for this year considering I didn't go get any last year due to horcrux hunting.
I bring my attention to the mirror in front of me, pulling my wand from my pocket I use a charm to calm my hair. Then a few more to "fix" my face, or make it look like I haven't cried every minute for the last three months. And already dreading my small journey out of the house, I go on my way.
I grabbed my wand and quickly exited the room. I all but flew down the stairs, so far so good, I haven't ran into anybody. I can hear Mrs. Weasley in the kitchen making breakfast, the smell makes my stomach rumble louder than a fully grown mandrake.
"Ronald? Is that you?" Mrs. Weasley calls from the kitchen. "I told you thirty more mi... Oh Hermione dear, I'm so sorry! Come have a cup of tea."
So much for going out unnoticed. I follow her into the kitchen. I stand awkwardly in the doorway, waiting for whatever lecture is coming my way. Mrs. Weasley sits at the table with two cups of tea and gestures for me to sit with her.
I walk over to the table and plop into the seat across from her. " Hermione dear, I'm worried about you. You haven't been eating properly, you never get out of your bed, and refuse any attempts of conversation with anybody, Even Harry!" She states in her overly concerned motherly voice.
" I know, it's just... Well I guess war affects everyone differently. It made Harry stronger, Ron matured, Neville is braver, and well I'm..." I began but I couldn't finish, what am I now? Who am I now?
"Your what sweetheart?" I looked down at my cup of tea, "I was about to go into town and get some school supplies, is there anything you need me to pick up?"
She looked disappointed at the change in subject, but didn't press any further. "Ron has eaten all of the chocolate frogs and licorice wands in the entire house! The appetite on that boy! Can you get some more for me?"
"No problem, I'll be back shortly." I say as I quickly escape the kitchen, and head for the floo. So much for grabbing a bite to eat, I'll just have to stop at the Leaky Cauldron while I'm out. I reached into the small flower pot overflowing with floo powder, stepped into the oversized fireplace and called out, "Leaky Cauldron!"
Instantly I felt the familiar pull and when I opened my eyes I was standing in the leaky cauldron's fireplace.
