Kaldur walked across the beach, trying to calm his thoughts, trying to get away from his most recent failure in the mission, trying to escape the betrayal of Tula.
Tula had been the one he loved, but she had chose someone else, his best friend. Garth. Tears escaped his eyes, so he thought of something else.
His team, but Kaldur thought he had almost hurt them. Hurt them by failing them. Failing the mission and making the Batman interfere. It hurt to think of that so Kaldur thought of something else.
What was happening right now. Kaldur took a moment to realize the beauty around him.
The sun was sinking into the ocean, filling the sky with vibrant shades of red, purple, and orange. The breeze was chilly and not to strong, just enough so you could feel it. The air smelled of fish. But it didn't smell that bad, it actually smelled really good. Seagulls flew through the sky, singing. The sand was warm and felt good in between his toes. Shells littered the beach, most iridescent, some reflecting the sun. To his left, the mountain loomed, the sun caught it, and it looked beautiful.
Things might not have been going to well in Atlantis or here on the surface world, but that was okay, it was in the past. Kaldur walked back to the mountain, picking up shells along the way.
Soon he had six shells. Kaldur smiled, he knew exactly what he was going to do with them.
Upon entering the mountain, he found the team. Connor was watching static, M'gan was baking a batch of cookies(she had practically perfected the art of cooking), Artemis was arguing, Wally was arguing back, and Robin was swing on ropes.
Kaldur smiled. He was where he belonged. He walked past Connor first. "Hey Kal!" Connor said.
"Hi Connor!" Kaldur smiled,"You need anything?"
"Nah, do you want to watch with me?" he pointed to the TV.
"No thanks,"Kaldur said,"I don't like static that much. Sorry if that came off offensive."
"Oh no, not static, I was thinking more like, watching a documentary on Atlantis." Connor replied sweetly.
Kaldur let out one small tear, "I'll go up to my room, I need to do something, then I'll come down and watch with you."
"Great!" Connor smiled. A rare smile.
Kaldur smiled back. He walked past the kitchen.
"Hello M'gan!" Kaldur said
"Kal! Kal!" M'gan said,"You've got to try my new cookies, I made them for you!"
"You did?" Kaldur asked, confused.
"They have fish in them." M'gan said,"I got the recipe from King Orin!"
"Thanks!" Kaldur smiled even wider,"Let me go to my room and put something away and then I will grab a few of your cookies and go back to Connor, we are going to watch a documentary about Atlantis! Would you like to join?"
"Of course." M'gan removed her apron,"See you in a bit!"
Next Kaldur walked past Artemis and Wally, bracing himself for a lot of arguing. But he was surprised.
Artemis and Wally were talking like civilized people,"Hey Kal!" They said in unison.
"Hello?" Kaldur asked,"Would you like to watch watch a documentary on Atlantis in a few minutes?"
"Of course!" Wally said,"Right Artemis?"
"Sure thing." Artemis chirped. Nodding her head, her blond hair bobbed.
Kaldur smiled and left the room, he knew that they had stopped arguing just for him.
The last person he ran into was Robin. Literally. He ran into him. Robin swung on the ropes flying through the air. Kaldur accidentally walked through the ropes and BAM!
"Oops, so sorry Kal! Here let me help you up." Robin jutted his pale hand out.
Kaldur took it,"Thank you my friend."
"Welcome." Rob winked behind his sunglasses, then he jumped back up onto the ropes and continued to fly.
"Would you like to watch a documentary on Atlantis with the rest of the team in a few minutes," Kaldur asked.
"Would love to!" Robin cackled and flipped down, disappearing into the shadows, "See you in a few!"
Kaldur once again, smiled and continued on to his room. Once in his room he found his box of pictures he always kept, placing his shells down he lifted up the pictures until he found the perfect pictures of the team. Individual pictures of each. He placed each into a shell, a certain shell. They were each a cut ribbed ark. A black one for Connor, because of his dark outlook and his sensible side. A green, pink, and purple shell for M'gan because of her colorful personality and her everlasting smile. A yellow and red striped one for Wally because those colors symbolized his cheery side and his serious and caring side. An iridescent green one for Artemis because of the envy she had of others and the kick butt side that no one besides the team would know. And a multicolored one for Robin because of his different personalities and the secrets he hides. And a blue one for Kaldur, himself, because of his calm demeanor and his leadership abilities.
He smiled, he knew, no matter what, they would be there, yes, they would be there.
