“Krrriiinnnggg!!!”

The telephone near at the dining area rings. Since people inside the house are not used of being at the dining area (except during meal time), nobody seemed to notice that the phone was actually ringing.

Manang Conching was busy preparing foods for lunch and Ling was at the terrace with her laptop, duplicating her resume.

Finally, the caller seemed noticed that no one was about to answer the phone. Therefore, it stopped and none of them had any idea about it.

Manang and Ling were almost done eating when the phone rings again. This time, Manang answered it.

“Ling, it’s your call.” Manang Conching said. Immediately, Ling took the phone from her.

Ling’s eyes widen as she laid the phone on the table and rushed to the terrace. She took her laptop and typed a specific website, seized a deep breath and pressed the ‘enter’ key. As the website was finally loaded, she scrolled the page and find what she was actually looking.

“OH-MY-GOOODDD!!!” Ling screamed.

Manang freaked after hearing that gaudy shriek that disturbed the entire house. She ran as fast as she could towards the terrace and saw Ling. Manang was still catching her breath as she headed on to Ling’s chair.

“MANANG, I MADE IT!” She pointed out her name in the master list of the May CPA licensure board examination passers: SANCHEZ, Mary Charlene Dy – 2nd Place, 96.78%

“Congratulation!” Manang gave her a heartfelt and loving embrace. Both of them were already crying. Indeed, they were overjoyed of the outcome. Everything had been paid off for Ling.

After some time, they heard a car arrived in front of the house. It was Elizabeth who quickly entered the gate.

“ANAK! CONGRATS!” The teary eyed Elizabeth instantaneously enfolded her daughter around her arms. Elizabeth tendered her phone to Ling. “Call your Dad.”

Ling smiled and dial her Dad’s number. It was ringing. But her Dad wasn’t answering yet. Elizabeth looked at her watch.

“I think he’s still at work. Let’s just call him later then.” Elizabeth stated as Ling gave her the phone.

They were about to enter the dining area when another car reached their gate. It was Jeron. He, too, hastily went out the car, opened the gate and get inside. Ling approached him with a big smile.

“Missy,” Jeron stretched her arms, hugged her fiancé and kissed her in the forehead. Jeron already knew it. In fact, he’s the one who was trying to call Ling earlier, but since nobody was answering, he decided to go there to personally congratulate her sweetie. He was also the one who informed Elizabeth about the result.

“So, my fiancé was the one who first knew before I did.” Ling alleged while the rest were having their lunch.

“Of course. Ako pa.” Jeron definitely declared. He grabbed his phone from his pocket and showed a number owned by a fellow named Mr. Abanilla.

“Mr. Abanilla informed me from the moment the result was completed. He was one of those 50 personnel in-charged in the consolidation of the final result and ranking.”

“How did you know him, hijo?” Elizabeth inquisitively questioned.

“I met him during the last day of Ling’s examination. While waiting for Ling, we had a conversation at the waiting area then. Knowing that he’s working there, we exchanged numbers and I told him to inform me right away as the final result was finalized.” Elizabeth was astounded with Jeron’s effort. She commended him and thanked deeply.
