Almost ten years later...
Dawn's Pov:
I woke up wondering what had awakened me, to hear Harry's terrible aunt yelling next door. I sighed, while she yelled at Harry, "Up. Get up. Now!"
Soon after that Dudley yelled, "Wake up, cousin! We're going to the Zoo!"
So I got up to get ready for the day in a hurry. After a 15 minute shower, I brushed my hair and teeth, then pulled my waist length hair back in a braid. Pulled on some undergarments, a blue-gray tee-shirt, dark blue jeans with a belt, white socks and deep brown boots.
Before I left my room, I made sure to put on my charm pendent and grabbed a black jacket. I telepathically told Harry, "Morning Harry, I'll meet you at the Zoo."
Harry mentally replied, "Morning Dawn, see you there."
I walked downstairs to see Mrs. Figg in the kitchen. I said to her, "Morning, did you need me to help make breakfast?"
She replied, "No dear, I'll be ok."
I looked over to her and asked, "Are you sure?"
She walked over on her crunches to sit in the wheelchair, which I had modified for her and said, "I'm sure!" then smiled and motored over to the fridge.
The phone rang and I handed the cordless phone to her. I overheard her telling Mr. Dursley that she wouldn't be available to babysit Harry today, since she broke her leg recently. Then she handed the phone back to me and went back to making herself some breakfast.
I hung up the phone on its charger, then quickly made myself a veggie breakfast BLT. (Eggs, veggie bacon, lettuce, tomato and cheese between two pieces of whole wheat bread.) I remembered that Harry likely didn't get any breakfast again, so I made an extra one and grabbed four mandarins. I wrapped up the two sandwiches and put them in my dark green backpack with the fruit and a couple of water bottles. I made sure that my wallet and keys were in my bag, then put on my jacket.
I said "I'll see you later!" She nodded, waved and went back to her cooking.
I walked out to the garage, grabbed my sliver helmet and hopped on my silver motor scooter, which I had modified to burn rubber. Once I had parked nearby the Zoo's main entrance, I telepathically asked Harry, "Which exhibit are you at?"
Harry mentally replied, "We're at the Lions exhibit."
I replied back, "Ok, see you there soon."
I probably should tell you a bit about myself, before I continue with my side of the story. My name is Dawn Skywalker, which, yes, I know it's interesting as a last name, but you'll understand why soon, my reader.
I'm surprisingly already almost 5 foot tall. I have deep blue-green eyes that often look either deep blue or deep green. My waist length pin straight, yet slightly wavy, hair is dark brown with golden highlights while the tips of my hair are silver. I am neither pale nor tan. I have pink lips that almost look rosy red and I don't have many freckles. I'm left handed, which I've been told is rare.
What with being a speed reader and having a photographic memory, I've learned the equivalent of a full high school graduate with the highest honors even though I was almost 11 years old. Plus, I had recently finished my gymnastics and fencing classes to expert level. Over the years, I kept busy with my hobbies while spending time with Harry from time to time in the summer.
I found Harry, the Dursleys and Dudley's friend near the Lions exhibit. When everyone was distracted, I tapped Harry on his right shoulder. He jumped in surprise and then turned around. Once he had noticed me he smiled, hugged me and said "Hi, it's good to see you."
I asked "Did you not get any breakfast again?" He nodded and hung his head in embarrassment. I pulled him to a nearby bench, set down my bag and pulled out the food and water bottles. I shared the food with him and gave him one of the water bottles. We ate our breakfast, then continued walking around the Zoo with the Dursleys and Dudley's friend.
After lunch, the Dursleys and Dudley's friend decided to go to the Reptile House, so Harry and I followed them there. We walked into the Reptile House to see Dudley and his friend looking at a boa constrictor. Dudley said, "Make it move."
Mr. Dursley tapped on glass of the snake's tank. Mr. Dursley says, "Move!"
Dudley taps the glass much harder, and Mr. Dursley winces. Dudley says, "Move!"
Harry said, "He's asleep!"
Dudley replied, "He's boring." Dudley, his friend and his parents retreated to another exhibit nearby. Leaving Harry and I in front of the boa constrictor's glass tank.
Harry said to the snake, "Sorry about him. He doesn't understand what it's like, lying there day after day, having people press their ugly faces in on you."
The snake looks up and seems to blink. Harry says, "Can you...hear me? (The snake seems to nod) It's just... I've never talked to a snake before. Do you... I mean... do you talk to people often? (The snake seems to shake its head) You're from Burma, aren't you? Was it nice there, do you miss your family? (The snake turns its head in the direction of a sign which says, Bred in Captivity) I see. That's me as well. I never knew my parents, either."
The now awake snake has attracted Dudley's attention. He ran over to the tank, knocking Harry to the floor, while I stepped back so I didn't end up on the floor, too.
Dudley shouted, "Mummy, dad, come here! You won't believe what this snake is doing!!"
I sighed and shook my head, then helped Harry up off the floor. We watched Dudley put his hands on the glass wall of the tank. I frowned while Harry glared at him. Suddenly, the glass disappears. Dudley starts to fall forward.
Dudley gasps loudly, "Whoa! Ahh! Ahh!!" He then falls into the snake's tank, sputtering in a pool of water. The snake gets out of the tank, stopping in front of Harry and me. The snake hisses, "Thanksss amigos." It then sliders off through the Reptile House and out of the building.
A man screams, "Snake!!" There is a lot of screaming as the snake heads for freedom. Dudley gets up to get out, but the glass is now back over the side of the tank. He is stuck. He pounds the glass.
Dudley shouts, "Mum, mummy!" Mrs. Dursley sees him and screams, "Ahh!" Dudley says, "Mum, help! Help me!"
Mrs. Dursley runs over and screams, "My darling boy! How did you get in there?!" Harry grins and giggles, while I put my hand over my mouth to hold back a laugh.
Mr. Dursley glares at Harry, while ignoring me, Harry's grin fades. Mrs. Dursley continues to say loudly, "How did you get in there? Dudley, oh, Dudley!"
I glanced at Harry, then mentally said, "See you later Harry. Wish I could've helped you to not be in trouble with your uncle."
Harry nodded at me and mentally replied, "See you later."
After the Dursleys, Dudley's friend and Harry left the Zoo with Dudley wrapped up in a towel. I helped a few of the Zoo employees catch the rather large Boa Constrictor and they put the snake back in it's tank. They thanked me for the help and I walked out to the parking lot. I put on my sliver helmet, hopped on my sliver motor scooter and drove back to Mrs. Figg's house.
