NAVIA
I woke up in the middle of the night screaming. My whole body felt like it was being ripped apart. The pain was excruciating, I’d never felt anything like it. I screamed and screamed, tears rushing down my face. I grabbed at my sheets trying to do something. I felt them tear under my grip. I released them and clutched my head. My head hurt so badly. It felt as if someone was hitting me repeatedly in the head with a hammer.
“Make it stop! Please!” I cried out between sobs.
I grabbed my arms desperate for some sort of relief. I squeezed as hard as I could, and I dug my nails in to my arms. I felt liquid run down my arm. There is a stabbing in my back, a terrible pounding in my head, a ripping in my stomach, and cramping in my arms and legs. It was all happening at once, overwhelming me. My whole body was under attack, and I need it to stop.
“Stop! Please.” Sobs hit me even harder. My face was soaked with tears and sweat.
A jolt of electricity went through my body, intensifying the pain. My torso bent upwards, and my head flew back. I screamed as loud as I could. I began to hear a bell ringing far off, but I was in so much pain I paid it no attention.
“Make it stop, please! I’ll do anything, just make it stop.” I begged.
I clenched my hands into fists, and squeezed until my palms began to hurt. Again I felt liquid trickle down my fingers. I don’t care, I just needed the pain in the rest of my body to stop. I brought my fists to my head, and pushed against my temples. I thrashed in my bed desperate for anything. My bedroom door flew open. Violently I turned in my bed. I saw Vicki my twin sister, standing in the doorway, staring at me. Panic was written all over her face. I looked at her begging her to make it stop hurting. I stretched my hand out to her, hoping she would make it all go away. Does she know how much I need her? Vicki ran out of my room screaming for help. Another ripple of pain rushed through me, I turned over in my bed. I curled up my body and wrapped my arms around my legs. Heat rushed up my body, and I felt like I was in fire. The bell ringing seemed to slowly get louder.
As I held my body I shook with pain. My tears felt like lava pouring from my eyes. I closed my eyes, hoping to hold back my tears and screamed. Nothing I do helps. My parents rushed in my room. My mother jumped in my bed and pried my arms apart. She laid me flat on my back. Somehow the pain seemed to worsen, as if now the pain was able to move faster through my body.
I screamed at my mother and tried to curl up again but she held me down. I looked at her begging her to let me go. I saw her lips move, but I couldn’t hear anything. The loud ringing in my ear is all I could hear. My vision was getting blurry, and the whole room appeared to be vibrating. I suddenly had no energy for anything so I stopped screaming and laid my head down. I looked over at my sister, still crying but somewhat under control. She stood back to the wall across the room looking at me with frightened eyes. I closed my eyes and lost consciousness.
I woke up what felt like hours later. The pain is even worse than before. I screamed as loud as I could. I clawed at my arms and legs. I felt my blood run down my legs. So I panicked and further clawed at my legs. Hands came down and pinned my legs and arms down. I struggled against them. I must have blacked out again after that because the next thing I know I was in a hospital.
My name is Navia Monroe, and I’m a Myx. A Myx is a Demon’s mate. I’m destined to be with a Demon. We will enhance each other’s power that we share and are supposed to fulfill our destiny together. Well at least that’s what they told me. The people at the hospital told me that the pain I experienced was my power settling into my body. Human bodies resist Demon power taking over, so it fights back, like it would with bacteria. Once human bodies stop fighting the power completely takes over.
Eight years ago Demons came out of hiding. They announced to the world that they existed. At first people denied their existence, but the Demons proved their power. Since then they’ve become entwined in today’s society. Demons search the world for their Myx. Since they announced their existence, schools have been built to help Demons find their Myxs. At these schools Myx’s are educated and united with Demons. There are at least ten schools like this in most countries. This makes it a lot easier for Demons to find their mates.
Demons aren’t what the legends and tall tales make them out to be. They aren’t these half human half animal hideous creatures. They look like regular humans until they use their powers. I’ve never seen one in person, but I’ve watched interviews with Demons. The woman I saw on T.V. was over two hundred years old. She was very pretty. I’ve heard that they’re very seductive, and they’re supposed to have wings.
