NAVIA
I woke up in a light blue room. The light in the room was very bright. I squinted my eyes at the bright light, waiting for them to adjust. I sensed a presence, and searched the room. There was a doctor sitting in a chair on the other side of the room. He was a man, but he looked different from any other man I have ever seen. I was like I was seeing for the first time.
Though he sat across the room I could see everything that he wore, even the stitching in his shirt. He has dark brown curly hair, with brown eyes to match. He was wearing a green button up shirt, black pants and a white lab coat over it. He has a small cut, most likely from shaving, on the right said of his jaw. On his coat there was a name tag clipped onto a pocket over his chest. I read it as if it were right in front of my face. His name was Doctor Alec Morris. I laid there and stared at him. He stared back, and made no intention to move. He looked calm and relaxed, there wasn’t a wrinkle on his face.
“What-?” I got distracted and forgot my question. Excitement broke through me. My voice was different but still the same. I touched my lips slightly with my fingers. My lips even felt different.
“Don’t do too much for right now, okay.” I nodded “Everything is going to take some getting used to. Your senses have been increased drastically. You’re a Myx, and you have great power. You need to take things slow. Your body is going to feel odd for a little while. You‘re at Sacred Life Hospital.”
Hospital? What happened? I thought back. The last thing I remember, I was lying down in bed, and then nothing but pain. I flinched away from the memory.
“Don’t try to remember. Please just relax, you survived a terrible accident.” His eyes darkened and his lips went from at ease to tight. What does he mean I survived?
“What accident? What happened?” A panic rose inside of me.
“Take a deep breath, and calm down.” He waited. I obeyed and took a deep breath, and slowly let it out. “There was a fire.” He stopped again, and silently looked at me. “Your house caught on fire the firemen pulled you out in the nick of time.” There was fire? I have no memory of that.
“Where’s my family? Where’s Vicki?” They surely got Vicki out of the house as well. “I need…I need to see Vicki.” The doctor looked down at his feet. “Where’s Vicki?” I began to shout at him. Why won’t he let me see Vicki? The doctor rose from his chair and stood at the end of the bed. Still he said nothing. He wouldn’t even look at me. “Vicki! Vicki!” I shouted. “I want to see Vicki. Where is she?” As the moments ticked by I got angrier and more desperate. I stared at the doctor, but he still refused to look at me. “Tell me!” I said half demanding, half begging.
The doctor finally looked up. His eyes were sad and glazed over. His lips were turned down in a frown. My head began to hurt. I put my hand over my eyes, and waited for the pain to stop. After a few moments the pain subsided.
“I’m sorry but you were the only one to survive the fire.” Dr. Morris looked at me.
No it can’t be. “No!” I yelled at him. I hopped out of bed and stumbled. My head was spinning from getting up so fast. I leaned against the wall until I could balance correctly.
“No stop, you need to go slow. You aren’t used to your new body.” He rushed over to me, and tried to pull me back into my bed.
“No, I won’t.” I said defiantly. I held my ground and pushed him off with all my strength.
The doctor went flying through the air, hitting the wall on the other side. There was a terrible thud when he hit the wall. Then another as he slumped to the ground and hit the floor. Dr. Morris lay not moving on the floor. Is he dead? Have I killed a man? I need Vicki. I’m so scared. I ran out the room. Noise was blaring from every direction loud and obnoxious. It hurt my ears. I covered my ears with my hands trying to block out the noise. I looked around, looking for a place to escape. There was nurse standing down the hall behind me. When she saw me, she gawked at me clearly taken by surprise. “Hey!” she yelled at me.
