Liv and I stare at our sets of parents, shocked and terrified. The groups seem more focused on each other at the time being. My mother speaks  first.

"You. It is your brother who killed my son," she sneers at Liv's mom.
"Your daughter killed him, so I say all's fair in love and war," she banters back.
"All's fair in war, maybe. Love, however..."

All ten eyes settle on Liv and I, still wrapped in each others arms. I don't let go of her, and she holds me tighter. My mother sneers at me.

"Cameron... I am so disappointed in you. Not only are you gay, but you've fallen for a filthy light borne."
"Oh, we're filthy," Liv's mother responds, "says the blood sucking vampires."
"Fire breathing maniacs."
"Blood tainting whores."
"Hairy wolves."
"Ghastly doves."
"Short clawed kittens."

Liv's mother falters and takes a step back, her face growing red.

"How DARE you call me a kitten?!" She roars at the top of her lungs.

Liv pushes me away and goes to her mother. I decide it is wise to do the same. My mother stops me.

"Do not return to me until you have killed the light borne," she growls in a low tone.

I turn to Liv, who is still speaking to her mother, an intimate conversation by the looks of it. She eventually turns around to face me. We look each other in the eyes, and have a silent conversation for a milisecond.

Neither of us can leave the other. We would sacrifice ourselves over the other in a heartbeat. But we can't let the prophecy win. We need each other.

We end our silent planning, and begin to slowly walk towards each other, stalking the other out. Making the parents think we are about to fight. We shift as we get closer, my fangs gleaming and her wings expanding.

I swallow back my fear and vomit, and hope the plan works. I run directly at Liv, and tackle her. I press my face into her back, but don't sink my teeth in. I feel her claws lightly scratch my arms, fooling the parents into thinking we are actually fighting. I hear them yelling insults at each other and words of encouragement to us, and I smile. I work my way until I'm completely on Liv's back, like a horseman on a horse.

She sinks back onto her hind legs, and leaps into the sky. She jets away as fast as she can, myself hanging on. We hear curses from below, and within seconds my mother is following is. Liv's father also takes to the sky, and races to catch up.

As soon as my mother and Liv's father are neck and neck, my mother rams into him, trying to knock him from the sky. He falters and hits back, until they are eventually wrestling for air space.

This slows them down considerably, and we rocket across the clouds to get away. A half hour later, after we are a solid few towns away, Liv begins to descend. As soon as she touches the ground, she shifts back into human form and collapses against me. I also shift back, and hold her up.

"Shh... Come on baby, let's find a place to stay, and then I'll let you sleep."

She nods against my chest, and I wrap an arm around her waist as we walk. She leans on me for support, and I don't mind at all.

I discover we are near the edge of a field, by a country road. We begin to walk back into town, and find a run down motel near the edge. We stumble in, and thankfully I have spare change in my jacket pocket. I toss some onto the counter in front of a bored looking teenage girl.

"How much will this get us?" I ask hopefully.

She thumbs through the money for a moment, and stares up at me.

"Two nights, cuz I'm feeling generous, and you two look like shit," she replies in a nasally voice.

I thank her as she hands me the key. I drag Liv into the room, and lie her down on the bed. She closes her eyes instantly and mumbles something about pain.

"Shh... I know, baby," I say, climbing in next to her after locking the door and turning out the lights.

I gently rub Liv's back as she rests her head on my chest, and then falls asleep instantly. I don't blame her. She must be exhausted after sprinting through the sky while carrying me. I gently kiss her forehead.

"Good night, beautiful," I whisper, allowing myself to give into sleep as well.
