I stand over my brothers body. His green eyes are wide open, terrified. I kneel by him, trying to find a pulse.

Nothing.

His mouth is open, his last words probably a strangled scream for help. My family is used to random deaths as this. People are always killing beasts.

But this is different.

This is another fellow beast, attacking our family. I can tell by the marks. I leave my brother, not allowing myself to grieve yet, and search for the monster. I allow my instincts to hone in, attempting to possibly track whatever it is.

I have no idea where to start. It has left no noticeable trail. I see a claw mark on a tree. Then another one, higher. I slowly look up.

I stare into yellow eyes. It is in the tree, above me.

I run as he begins to jump down. I crash through the brush, but know he is gaining on me.

He has short, dark fur and short fangs. His claws are dragon-like, and he has small horns. Is this the dragon I am to fight?

No, he cannot be. He is not pure, I can sense small parts of dark magic coming off of him. He must be a light borne, though. He growls at me, baring his fangs. I bare my longer ones right back, as he flares his claws.

I can tell he is almost too large for his form, and unbalanced. With my speed and agility, I may be able to avenge my brother.

I charge directly at him as he sneers, thinking I will be an easy target. At the last second, I dodge left as he lunges forward. He falls, off balance, and I jump onto his back. I sink my teeth into the scruff of his neck, feeling the blood rush out. It tastes disgustingly light, but I still pursue him as my tail anchors me by stabbing into his back.

Once he has control of his body, he begins to flail and try to claw me. I hang on for dear life, trying to drain him as he grazes my body with scratches. They will not kill me, but they burn. I tear a chunk of his neck, hoping to slow him down, and sink my teeth in just above it.

It seems to only make him angrier. He slams his back into a tree. I feel my ribs snap. I bite harder, trying to ignore the pain.

He then slams his right side into a tree, my arm making direct contact with it. I feel and hear my elbow shatter, and then limply hang from the rest of my arm. White hot pain sears up and down my arm. I let out a bloody scream.

The beast rears back, and I nearly fall off. I am nearly passing out from the pain. As the beast comes back down, I use his momentum to slam my horns into his head. I feel the skin puncture and his skull cave in. He crumples under me, and I tear his neck open, just to be sure he dies.

I then roll off the beast, stumbling to the lake. The edge of my vision grows darker by the second, the pain unbearable.

I reach the waters edge, and pass out.
