RECAP: Another wave of pain went through my arm and I let out another cry. Tears were now welling up in Christies eyes. I took my hand away from my wrist to find what looked like a crest burning into my arm, in the shape of a phoenix.
I held my breath, waiting for another wave of pain go through my hand, but one didn’t come. Slowly I began to relax my jaw and take my hand away from the burn. Christie sat opposite of me, her eyes red and puffy, and a few tears still escaping. “Is it over” she whispered hoarsely.
I nodded, the burning pain had only gone on for two or three minutes, but it felt like a lifetime. The whole time Christie had been sobbing, asking me what was happening, but I couldn’t tell her for the fear I would let out another cry of pain.
The weird thing though was that the burn didn’t hurt at all, it was like it never happened. The only evidence that it had taken place was the phoenix burned into my wrist. Shakily I got to my feet, as did Christie. She wiped her face with the palm of her hands. “You should go to the nurse or something, ask her if she knows what happened… I mean there has to be a reason…”
I frowned, I didn’t want to go to the nurse, I didn’t want to have another reason to be labeled a freak, “I think I’m just going to ditch the rest of the day…go home and ask Dad if he knows anything.”
Christie frowned at that, “Zeus, you should have that checked out.”
“I will…if my Dad doesn’t know why it happened, deal?” I said.
Christie sighed, “Fine, but if he doesn’t know you have to go to the hospital!”
I nodded, “We better get out of here without being seen, you know cause your little stunt probably has the hall monitors searching for us.”
Unlocking the door I swung it open, to find Josh. I frowned and stepped out of the way, “Sorry man, I didn’t mean to lock you out.”
Josh grabbed the front of my shirt and slammed me against the wall. “I know you are the Prince” an evil smile crept onto his face, “It’s funny how you managed to slip away right before the revealing.”
“What the heck are you talking about? Let me go you idiot!” I tried to push him off but he was a lot stronger than me.
An evil smile crept onto his face, “Daddy thought he could hide you from Ironhead huh? He was wrong, we found you.”
“What-” I began to ask but was cut off when there was a loud ding and Josh fell to the ground unconscious.
I looked at Christie who had a baseball bat in both hands and looked like that is what she had swung at Josh, “It’s a good thing the schools star baseball players locker is right next to the bathroom.”
I just stared at Josh’s unconscious body, what the heck had he been talking about? And why had he called me the Prince? I shook my head and stepped away from Josh, “Let’s get out of here before…anything weird happens again.”
“Give me your keys” Christi commanded, I opened my mouth to complain but Christie cut in, “You better not be about to complain about who gets to drive the car.”
Sighing I tossed her the keys, “Ok, lets get out of here.”
We quickly left the bathroom and ran to the parking lot with no problem. But when we were sliding into our seats into my car the doors to the school slammed open, Josh pointing at our car, the principal and…the gym teacher?
But I didn’t think about that as the gym teacher and Josh suddenly came sprinting towards us. “GO, GO!” I yelled at Christie, who was fumbling with the keys trying to get them into the ignition. Ripping them from her hand I jammed the key into the ignition and turned it. The car came to life, “DRIVE!” I yelled.
Christie quickly put the car into gear and slammed her foot onto the pedal, making the car lurch forward. Taking a sharp right she sped through the parking lot, barley missing a car by a hair. Taking another right we were off school property. I looked back at Josh and the gym teacher, who was yelling at Josh and pointing at the car. I was cut off from the scene a moment later and fell back into my seat with a sigh.
Christie slowed our speed now that they couldn’t get us. “What was that?” she asked.
“I don’t know but I guess you were right, there is definitely some not right about Josh” I admitted.
“It takes you him about to pummel you and chase you out of the school with the gym teacher to figure this out” she replied rolling her eyes.
“Did you hear what he was saying to me, something about being a Prince and slipping away before the revealing. Or how ‘Daddy thought he could hide me from Ironhead’?”
Christie frowned, “I did, I think the revealing might have something to do with that” she said, her eyes flickering to the burned phoenix crest on my arm.
“I agree” I said looking out my window, “And what the Daddy stuff he said, I found that really odd. That just shows we have to go to my house, to ask my Dad what the heck is going on.”
Christie nodded and turned onto our street. My eyes immediately went to my house, where there was a black Volvo parked in the driveway. The door to the house suddenly sprang open and out ran my Dad, going strait to his car. Christie parked the car on the curb. I jogged up to my Dads car, which he was fumbling with the lock to get the door open. As I reached my Dad I grabbed his shoulder and spun him around. His black hair was showing signs of white, his pale skin seemed paler, and his green eyes were filled with worry.
“Zeus” he breathed.
“Dad what the heck’s going on? What is this?” I brought my arm up to show him the crest, his eyes widening.
He swore under his breath and looked me square in the eye, taking a deep breath he said, “I think it’s time I tell you who you really are Zeus, who your real family are, what they are, what you are.”
