I strode down the corridors of the castle, getting the occasional threats and sneers. Yet I ignored them, like I have been doing for the past few years. I bit my lip as I approached the doors to the study of the King.

As I neared a ear splitting scream pierced the air. I froze, the scream was one of a girl. I hope he wasn’t… I stopped the thought right there and knocked on the door. For a moment it was silent before an authorities tone called out, “Enter.”

Sighing I opened the doors to find the King standing before two teens and an old man. One of the teens was a girl, most likely the one that had let out the scream. Her face was stained with tear marks and she was whimpering into the shoulder of a boy. For a moment it was silent before I spoke, “You requested my presence, my King.”

“It is good to see you again, Drew.” The King said, smiling.

“As it is you, my King” I replied as I curtsied.

The King’s smile turned sinister and it felt like the blood suddenly ran cold in my veins. “You remember that day we first met, Drew?” he didn’t wait for me to answer and continued on, “You owe me a favor, this is the Prince and his twin. You are to train the Prince; this is the favor I am asking you. You are to train the Prince to be a solider and I also want you to train him to be the proper Prince.”

I pressed my lips into a thin line as the Prince turned around, now holding the girl on his hands. For a moment he stared at his twin worriedly, before looking up at me. For a moment his face was blank before his face lit up in wonder.

Why would he look at me like that? Oh crap, he better not want to take me to his chambers, please anything but that. I wouldn’t be able to protest either, for he was the next in line for the thrown and you couldn’t deny the future King.

Suddenly the girl looked up at the Prince and whispered something to him that I couldn’t make out. The Prince turned to the King “Can I bring her to a bed?” his voice was pleading, he was clearly worried for his twin. But why? I asked myself, men didn’t care for any women, even their own sisters.

The King nodded and faced the old man; “Show the Prince to his chambers, put the Princess in the chambers next to his. I have some business to Lieutenant Trajan.”

I cleared my throat, “Sorry to contradict you, my King. But I was just promoted to Commander.”

The King smiled, as the Prince started to leave. As he passed me I curtsied. He stopped and I froze, oh gods what do I do?

He smiled, “I’d bow he said, “But I have my hands full.”

I stared at him in wonder, why would he bow to me. I am underneath him, to him I am a speck of dust, why would he take time to bow to me. I wanted to ask this, but I thought better. He looked away and left, leaving me alone with the King.

“So you want me to train the Prince, my King?” I asked, to which he nodded, “If you wouldn’t mind me asking, why me? I mean there are better people for the job. Though I will train him.”

The King chuckled, “I picked you because when I saw you that day in this very castle I saw a fiery passion in your eyes. I know you will do anything to get what you want. And to make sure you do what I ask, and do it correctly, I’m going to make you a deal.”

“If you train the Prince, you will be given a golden ranking.”

I gasped, “But the golden ranking is only given to three people! They rule over the whole army!”
