Here I am, at a party, being pulled down a hallway by a boy who the school envys and fears at the same time. His grip on my wrist tightens as we turn a corner, I stumble behind him trying to keep up before we enter into an empty dark room.
Oh God, stuck alone with another boy.
Daniel shuts the door behind us, letting go of my wrist. I hear the lock snap and we stand there in silence. Looking around the room I try to make out where everything is in the darkness. I squint and my vision adjusts.
This room was beautiful, it clearly belonged to a child, and a loved one at that. Around the room, walls were scattered with cherished memories of friends and family, the painting behind them was an off white that gave of a calm feel. The double bed with white sheets was placed central of the room, it was complimented by an elaborate mahogany headboard. Toys were scattered in a corner on top of a rug with two cosy chairs and a small set of gumboots sat beside them.
Ace lets out a sigh cutting me away from my thoughts.
My delight is replaced with anxiousness as his figure is slowly illuminated by the moonlight shining through the balcony doors.
"I'm sorry you had to go through that." He says moving closer to me.
"Well I guess I'm okay now. Besides he was drunk so it's not his fault." His face hardens as well as his body. "Is there something wrong? Did I say something that upset you? I'm truly sorry if I did."
Ace is inches away from my body, so close I can feel the heat radiating from him, "A drunk man speaks a sober heart; do you know what that means Sarah?"
"I guess so..." I say unsure of where this is leading.
"If you know, then why were you sticking up for that fuck up a minute ago?! Do you not realise that if I didn't come he would've gone further than that! He is a man, no a boy, who does what he wants when sober - in a drunken state, and because of that, he could easily blame it on the alcohol when you press charges."
I'm shocked, I have no words for what Ace had just told me. I'm trying to process his words when he turns around and steps out onto the balcony.
"Sit down." He states calmly before sitting down and patting the valid seat beside him.
I follow his instructions, sitting down beside him.
We stare out into the breathtaking view. There were hundreds of little lights that lit up the hill below the thousands of shining stars.
Ace lets out a breath, "I'm sorry I went off at you."
"No I should be the one saying sorry, I mean it was dumb for me to protect him."
"Well I forgive you, just don't do it again. Who was he anyways?"
I take in a deep breath trying to prevent myself from breaking down and crying in front of him.
"His name is Daniel, we went out for a little over 2 years. But when I went to meet him today..." My eyes begin to water.
Ace scoots his chair closer and grabs my hands, "It's okay, we don't have to talk about it."
"No I want to talk about it, I need to get it out of my system." He gives me an assuring smile before carrying on.
"But when I went to meet him today he was with another girl. I saw them laughing, kissing and hugging together, he actually look happy for once .
"I'm so sorry Sarah." he says tucking a lock of my brown hair behind my ear. "Well on a more positive note, thank you for saving my life the other day. I really appreciate it; I don't know why I didn't tell you this on the day."
I smile at the thought, "Well I couldn't let someone get hurt."
We both look deeply into each others eyes, I had never noticed how dark they were.
A cool breeze blows past the two of us and my arms begin to get goosebumps.
Ace notices and stands up, taking off his denim jacket wrapping it around me. My eyes move up to his concentrated face as he wraps the clothing. His charisma was embedded on his gorgeous facial features- dark brown eyes and all- and when his lips curved up, they formed two small dimples sitting upon his cheeks.
"Staring is rude you know." He lets out a chuckle. I turn away embarrassed, I could feel my face reddening, thank god it was dark.
A knock at the door causes our heads to immediately turn to the intruder coming in.
"ACE YOU IN HERE MATE?" Ace smirks at me before making his way to outside.
I sat there slouched for ages with his warm, scented jacket embraced around me wondering what to do with myself.
There was more to this boy, I just knew it.
