"God, I love you." Jake said to her.
Thump.
"I don't know about this, Jake. What if she walks in on us?" She asked.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
"She won't. I told her I was going out to night. Plus, she's working late. She won't be home for hours. We have the whole place to ourselves."
Thump, Thump, Thump, Thump, Thump.
I didn't understand why I didn't just leave. Part of me was screaming at myself to just walk out of the house, but the other part of me wanted to know. Know if Jake really was the asshole that my friends thought he was. But I simply couldn't stop my curiosity. So I turned on the lights.
Thump, thump, thump, thump, thump, thump, thump.
Jake and a girl from my work lay naked on his couch. Jake jumps up as soon as the light was on. He quickly covers himself with one of his blankets and turns to face me.
Thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump.
"Melinda! I did mean for you to find out this way! Please come back!"
"Get away from me Jake! Stay away! Don't come near me!"
"Miss, your heart rate is climbing quickly. Are you okay?" The nurse asked.
I snapped out of my daze, blinked a few times and nodded my head. "Yeah, yeah I'm fine." I said as I slowed my breathing.
"Well, it looks like your body is in perfect shape. Except for maybe your heart. May I ask the reason for your heart rate?" She asked.
"Rough past."
