"We've found a case for you Agent Redfort." Began LB, wasting no time as usual. Ruby had been sent straight to the head of Spectrum's office by Buzz, who had also been, brief, vague, and not a pleasure to talk to."When I say case I mean... experiment. MI5 also require training for their agents and have sent one over to solve a case with you." Ruby scowled. She didn't like coming here for little, and in her mind, pointless bozos who didn't know what was good for them counted as little.
"I'm sure help isn't necessary." It was LB's turn to be irritated.
"You talk like it's an option Redfort. Anyhow, he's on his way down." There was a knock on the door. Ruby rolled her eyes.
"Speak of the devil. Come in." The door swung open and in walked a young boy, about Ruby's age. What immediately came to attention was his dark, wavy hair, which was gelled up at the front. He had sparkling blue eyes magnified slightly by his big glasses, and under his eyes there were splattered freckles. His teeth were white and perfectly aligned, he looked like he came straight from a dentists advert, which, Ruby thought, wasn't completely unlikely. The boy was tall, at least a head taller than Ruby, and had a stocky, muscular build. He had a charming, easy going smile that made people think that he had not tried the least to come up with his handsome appearance. He looked likable, not to mention a cross between Clark Kent and James Bond, but Ruby was all to used to the first glance impressions and knew that she should take nothing from it. A few encounters with Baby-Faced Marshall, who's complete set of body parts were yet to be discovered, had rid her of that. Ruby knew that lurking under that sweet face of his could be a completely different man. Ruby was not inclined to trust the guy until he proved himself worthy of being talked to, no matter if that meant baser instinct or not.
"So he's the muscle in this whole darned thing." LB shot Ruby a look that would have not looked out of place on her own mothers. The basic message was behave.
"Not in the slightest Agent Redfort. I am both the brawn and the brain." Interrupted the MI5 agent.
"Then where do I come in?" Asked Ruby edgily. The boy grinned that infuriatingly handsome grin.
"You are also the brawn and brain. We need to work together." Ruby frowned.
"This is hardly preschool, we don't promote teamwork too much over here. And since when does a hunk like yourself have brains?" The statement was harsh, even for Ruby, and LB ground her teeth. The agent didn't seem to be thrown though.
"Perhaps that's the reason you have a mole in Spectrum?" Ruby stared at the other with amazement. LB almost smiled. Almost.
"You did deserve it Redfort. And anyhow, agent 932 is the youngest ever to be hired by MI5 and is working to become the newest member of the Double O series."
"You're saying James Bond is real?" The boy chuckled.
"Confidential." He said.
"Agent 932 went to Oxford when he was only 10 to study Quantum Physics, Maths, Social Sciences and Bio-Chemistry." Ruby rolled her eyes.
"Great, a geek freak." Agent 932 smirked.
"And you Redfort?"
"Agent Redfort got an offer from Harvard at age 7 after she won the World Junior Code Cracking Competition, and created a code so complex it took code breakers from the FBI and CIA two weeks to crack it." Agent 932 looked impressed to say the least.
"So when do we start?" Asked Ruby, keen to move on.
"Next week." Ruby opened her mouth to reply but LB stopped her.
"I thought you and Agent 932 should become better acquainted. Take him to your house, he'll start school with you tomorrow." Ruby's eyes nearly popped out her skull.
"But-"
"-Hitch has made him a cover, he'll be a British exchange student."
"You've got to be kidding." Said Ruby.
